Jeramie
Billy Sims is a heisman (running back) player from The University Of Oklahoma. He stayed around the Tulsa area and opened Billy Simms BBQ. Today he was at a local Walmart (in Pryor) signing autographs. My sister and aunt ran over and had him sign an OU flag. While my sister was there she told Billy that their Preacher's picture of Billy (autographed) was stolen when someone broke into their Church last year. Billy told my sister to hang out and he ran to his car. He came back to my sister with an Autographed pic of Him, Jason White, and a Heisman winner from the 60's. Totally cool of him. If that wasnt enough, my sister called my mom because my mom is a HUGE OU fan. Mom ran over to have him autograph something. She called my sister a rat fink for getting the last OU flag. Billy was good enough to give my Mom something that no one else had. He had the Walmart Manager come over and take a digital photo of Billy and my Mom and Walmart is going to blow it up and have it ready for Mom tomorrow, for free...... No that is just classy. That guy hasnt played football in a while and he is still appreciative.... Two Thumbs Up Billy Sims!

OJR
That is great to hear! Most of those high-priced boys wouldn't do anything, unless they were paid for it! Good for him!

okbowman
That is really cool! Billy Sims in this instance was a class act! Was the other player from the 60's Steve Owens, I think he won a heisman too!

Jeramie
That is really cool! Billy Sims in this instance was a class act! Was the other player from the 60's Steve Owens, I think he won a heisman too! Im not sure. I havent seen the pic yet. sounds like a real down to earth guy. did he ever play pro? sounds like he should have... Yep, Yep. Here is what Wilkipedia has to say about his pro carrier.... As expected Sims was the first overall pick in the 1980 NFL Draft. He spent five years with the Detroit Lions, making the Pro Bowl in 1980, 1981, and 1982. Sims led the Lions to the playoffs in 1982 and 1983 but they lost in the first round both times. Sims finished his career with 1131 carries for 5106 yards (4.5 yards per carry), and 186 receptions for 2072 yards (11.1 yards per catch). His career ended abruptly midway through the 1984 season when he suffered a serious knee injury in a game against the Minnesota Vikings, also probably costing him a shot at the NFL Hall of Fame. Despite this, Sims remains a beloved former sports figure in Detroit.
