How old were you?

I moved out shortly after turning 17. Long story but like Cmarti said, two strong willed males in the house didn't work all that great. My advice would be stay at home long enough to move out and be "comfortable" with your income and expenses. If you move out and financially need help from your family anyways you might as well stay there. I was a home owner and married at 23, first kid at 26, last kid at 31.:)

I moved out for the first time a little over a year ago at age 23. The college I attended was in the same town as my high school, which was about 10 minutes from my parents. I didnt see a point in spending a ton of money for some rundown apartment when I could just live at home. I'm glad I did because that gave me the chance to save money which I am certainly needing now that I have moved out.

Buckbuster and I did the same thing, actually in the same town... I did it at age 22 rather than 23 though, and have been in the same apartment since I moved out.

A have a lot of respect for those who stay home and take care of their parents. There is nothing wrong with that. Your time to move out will come.

Me, I moved out at 24. I was able to rent an entire house for $300 a month so it was cheap rent. I finally bought a house after I got married at 35.

1985, I was out at 21, my own apartment. 6 years later married, bought a co-op in a high rise

(19th floor!). Lived there for 5 years to save $ for a house, sold that, moved to the NY burbs and bought my 1st house in june of 97 and in november of 04, I bought a second home/land (hunting cabin) that we use EVERY weekend.

None of this would have been a reality if I did not have a good job. I moved out as soon as I started my electrical apprenticeship and have not looked back since.

Taking care of Mom and Dad was a non issue for me they were younger then and healthy, besides, my little brother was there for the next 10 years!

My parents left me in a farm house when I was 18. I had a pool table and a fridge so use your imagination! (how does a smiley go here)

I joined the USAF 3 years later (1985) and did not buy a house until it was late 1998. But since my assignment was for 4 years, I wasn't going to buy a house north of London either! So to all you "same hometown folks since forever folks" (reservists, etc), enjoy that benefit most active duty don't have. In a nutshell, I was 34 on my 1st house.
