woodsman2230
Hey there guys I have been hunting for about 9 years (since I was 12) and I was thinking about hunting ducks this year. I live right beside a huge swamp. Geneva Swamp in NW PA. I have never hunted ducks or waterfowl of any kind. I was wondering if you veterans out there had any tips about caling, what i need to bring stuff like that. Any info would be a huge help. Thanks. elkhntnfool
The best thing you can do is buy a call that comes with an instructional video or cd. This will teach you everything you need to know about the call you have purchased. Buy a few decoys and you can start hunting. It's when you get hooked on waterfowl hunting that everything starts. I can't even begin to think about how many calls and decoys I have it's addictive. Hope this helps. Oh and make sure you practice calling ALOT!! DU_man_84
i would recommend buying a good beginner call first, like buck gardners double nasty, HS, bill collector, or primos wench, thats a starting point, get some instructional videos over a cd or cassete, videos are much nicer, i strongly recommend trying to find someone you know or could get to know that knows about waterfowl hunting or a guided hunt if affordable, this way you wont go out and dump all your money on a sport that you might not even like, which im sure you will, but i strongly reccomend going out with someone who knows the sport before you start spending money, dont want to see you have a bad first experience cause your not experienced and not like the sport, and if ya get a call, let us know what ya got and if got any questions just ask

RTF
Practice, practice your skeet shooting this summer. Think about how you are going to retrieve the down ducks also.
double_drop
I would buy a buck gardner double nasty kit which comes with a dvd, call, and a push button call maker. It makes the call you are trying to achieve so you know what it is suppose to sould like. ONly like 20 to 25 bucks for the kit. I have a double nasty acrylic and it is a awesome call. Next if you want some cheap mallard decoys look for some used ones or if your walmart has hunting stuff you can get cheap mallard decoys there. Buy a decent pair of waders a camo coat, probably waterproof. If you are wonderin about steel shot i prefer kent fasteel but if you want cheap steel shot go with winchester xpert hi velocity. jcs3344
i started duck hunting last year and had a blast ! the way i got started was just buying a call and practiceing alot . i pretty much would call everyday for hours, and watch hunting vids and all that. Its honestly not that hard if u just practice. Buy you some decoys and just research different ways to set up the decoys for the area you are hunting. ME and my buddies killed a good amount of ducks this year for our first year. Now that we have a year under i built we are hooked and are working on makeing a duck boat this summer ! Like the guy said above it is ADDICTING !!! so get ready for a blast
