Palssonater Posted December 29, 2004 Report Share Posted December 29, 2004 Well seems like a heck of a storm is developing in Montana and moving into the dakotas and southern Manitoba tomorrow morning. I think I feel a cold comin on! Might have to be a sick day. I don't want to commute tomorrow if this "freezing snow" is going to screw things up. I'd rater be skidooing! Winter storm warning for city of Winnipeg upgraded from winter storm watch Heavy snow, freezing rain, strong winds and blowing snow to develop across southern Manitoba Thursday. This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are Imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions... Listen for updated statements. A winter storm currently developing in southeastern Idaho will track northeastward into the Dakotas during the day Thursday. As this storm develops it will spread precipitation into southern Manitoba and southern Saskatchewan. Precipitation will begin to spread into Southern Manitoba Thursday morning..With snow over northern areas changing to freezing rain in the south. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres are expected by the end of the day Thursday in a band running just north of Winnipeg through Brandon. Winnipeg will see 5 to 10 centimetres mixed at times with freezing rain, while southeastern Manitoba will see mainly freezing rain. Conditions will deteriorate further late Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening as strong northerly winds develop giving snow and blowing snow across most of southern Manitoba. We had the thickest hoar frost I have even seen yestereday. Probably going to be like all the other weather predictions this year. Way off! Nova Scotia will probably get it all.... Well, here in the northwest corner of Montana we have gotten about four inches of snow and the temperature is 24 degrees fahrenheit or -13 degrees celcius. We need the snow as we have very little snow pack in the mountains and just an inch or so here in the valley. I love the winter and I do not even snowmobile, just snowshoe, icefish and enjoy the beauty of it. As far as calling in sick to go play, well in my mind that is one of the things going wrong with this country and as a pharmacy manager if you were one of my employees you would be looking for a new job if I found out. Second, I commute an hour to and from work on highway. Adverse weather conditions arise and the company calls and tells us to stay home. We joke about using sick days, but we get the day off with pay. I love my job and in no way would I do something to jeopardize it. I worked too hard and too long to where I am. I am very fortunate to have this job and to work in a place that respects its employees and the danger they may encounter on the roadways. In my opinion there are far too many companies and bosses that expect and put pressure on their employees to risk it on the commute and essentially put far too many people on the roads in times of bad weather.
