Jeramie
My Fuji Film Fine Pix 3000 went for a swim in a water hole on the 4th.... It works no more. Now we are in the market for a new Digital. I love the SLR cameras. The Fuji Film I had was a lot like an SLR but not the same Obviously. The D40 is only 6.1MP but my old Fuji Film was only 3.2 and I have some beautiful pics with it. The price is about right (however I would love to have the D40X which is 10mp). Does anyone have any experience with the D40? Any experience with Nikon Digitals? Any input would be very much appreciated. I will be picking out a camera within the next couple of weeks. Thanks In Advance, Jeramie
toddyboman
My dad just got the Nikon D40 about 3 weeks ago. So far he really likes it. He use to have a 35mm so all his lenses work on the digital so he was happy about that. I have used it a few times and it seems to be a great camera. Actually thinking about getting one myself. Jeramie, my minolta is only a 6.1 mp camera, the digital slr is nice and it works with all my old 35 mm slr lenses from my old maxxum 7000, part of the reason I went with the minolta. Really for what it is worth the 6.1 mp camera will take some great pics and provide good enough quality to please most who use cameras in that class, but if you can afford to step up to the 10 mp camera and that is really what you want, go for it. Either way the digital slr will be considerably better than the fuji you were using.
Orion_70
I bought the Nikon d40 about a month ago and love it. If you want some really good information on it go to http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40.htm This guy gives tips and tricks and complete review/recommendations. Tominator
Nikon makes the best camera glass there is IMHO. A lot of professioals agree too. I've had 3 or 4 35mm Nikons in the past, along with my current one, and the picture quality is tough to beat.
LifeNRA
6 MP is fine. I was reading somewhere that for most pictures 6MP is the norm for most photographers! 10MP is ok, but you will need more memory cards, plus it takes longer to write to the card itself. I still use my old N2020 that I bought years ago. Nikon still uses the same lens mount on all their lens, well they used to anyways! Hopefully they haven't changed it. Unless your a major photographer, I think the 6MP will be fine! JMO.
