coles
has anyone ever seen this or maybe hunt with them? there is this guy from bozeman and he has a house here in choteau and land outside of town. he is big into this falcon hunting and i got to hunt with him today. he had about 10 guys that came down and i brought my two bros, grandpaw and uncle. i think all together we had 13 people and 16 dogs! in the past four or five years i think about 180 pheasants were killed off of his property the first year, 356 the second year, 460 the third, last year about 496, and this year he said the total is over 600. those numbers are also counting the ones that were shot and kept going or just lost. it wasnt great hunting today. we went out with guns this morning and he brought the falcons out this afternoon. i should have had 2 cockbirds but i wasnt shootin to straight. i didnt go skunked though. i hit one with my pickup on the way home and i wasnt goin real fast so i went back and picked it up. it wasnt damaged so its in my freezer now and gonna be fried tomorrow after the morning hunt. the falcon knocked down one **** but it got away and i got the whole thing on film. then she got a hen later but i missed that one. all in all it was an exciting day. good luck to all you other chicken chasers, cole
brownie65
Re: falcon hunting? Does this guy stock pheasants or is his land just that loaded with them ? Must be a pretty huge ranch also. No I have never seen or heard of anyone hunting with falcons. Maybe someone on here is familiar with this & they will post their knowledge on the topic. I do know in Illinois you need federal & state falconry permits to possess & transport falcons.
coles
Re: falcon hunting? this guy has a section of land or better. and he has everything they need. food, water, cover. they guy who owned it before maybe only hunted once or twice a year cuz he like hunting grouse better. he may have planted some birds but most of em are native. he also has to have all kinds of permits and licenses to have the falcons. i think he said you ahve to go through like 3 years of apprenticeship just to get the license. so i dont know it was pretty cool. cole
