Question for spitfire users.

Who is shooting 100 gr. spitfires, and at what poundage, what have been your results, positive and negative..

I bought 3 spitfires way back when. First year I used them I shot a deer and got about 9" of penetration. Deer was broadside at 20 yards shooting 72# Golden Eagle back then.

Blades opened fine, cut the top half of the heart and nearly severed the windpipe. That deer ran up a little hill, arrow fell out, got to the top of the hill, stumbled, ran down the hill a bit, stumbled, fell, got up, fell stone dead in about 10 seconds about 5 yards from where I shot him.

I kind of cursed the spitfire for not getting pass thru, but about 6 months later I found out why--I hit him square in the shoulder blade, you could see the "Y" pattern that two of the blades cut into the bone and went through the bone piercing the heart.

I have one spitfire in my quiver to this day.

I shot 3 deer with them last year, they performed well and got the job done but i just wasnt impressed with the snaplock deal on the blades. One didnt seem to function well straight out of the pack.

Deer 1: Doe at 18 yards, complete pass through the boiler room. . . . fell about 30 yards away.

Deer 2: Small buck at 8 yards, arrow stopped when it hit low in the opposite shoulder bone. . . . deer fell in sight, about 30 yards away.

Deer 3: Doe at 30 yards quartering away strongly. . . . hit a few ribs back and stopped when it hit the opposite shoulder. I guess it really busted the shoulders up bad b/c she dropped like a hammer and layed over w/ a couple kicks and expired.

All this was from a Mathews LX, 64lbs, 392gr Easton ST Axis, at 290fps.

I'm shooting a 60lb/29" Mathews Outback using Beman 380-16's.

The penetration I get is tremendous. I have been surprised on one occasion, when I shot a doe, that I thought my broad head did not open because I found it closed. NAP said it was normal that the Spitfire could close after exiting the animal. After recovering the doe, there was a perfect tri-X blade pattern of the spitfire. So no doubt that it had opened.

Any reservations about these blades not opening at the time of truth, should be dismissed.

They fly just like field tips and have a good strong tip for bone penetration. That tip blasts thru shoulder bone...no problem. I highly recommend NAP Spitfires of the Spitfire Pro.

Its all thats in MY quiver. 100gr NAP Spitfires.

BTW...NAP sends LOADS of archery equipment to OUR troops in that sandbox over there for recreation.

I shot a buck almost right below me and only got about 7" of penetration...did kill him though. I also shot a doe at 12yds, broadside and got about the same...still killed her too. I shoot a 65lb bow and neither shot was a pass through...I was not real satisfied with their penetration overall. I switched back to fixed blades.

I shot them for one season about 3 years ago.I hit a doe quartering away at abut 15 yards and the arrow hit the shoulder on the off side.As fast as the arrow went in it squirted right back out and the doe ran out of sight.It looked like a good solid hit,but there was very little blood and none after about 40 yards.I was up in a stand about 20' so there may have been some deflection from the head when the arrow impacted the deer,I don't know.I swithed back to fixed blades after that.I'm sure the Spitfires are fine heads,but I lost a little confidence in them after loosing that doe,and in hunting you need confidence that your equipment will get the job done

I have shot 4 deer with the 100gr. and I pull 65#. None of the deer have ran over 30 yds before expiring. I love my spitfires and will continue to use them untill they no longer make them!!!
