Swamphunter
I am changing the fletching on my carbons this year and have never fletched carbons before. I have been doing my aluminums now for years, but have no experience with the process of carbons. 1. How do I go about removing the old fletchings and cleaning the glue off the shaft without damaging it? 2. What type of glue do I use? 3. Will my Bitzenburger do the job? Thanks! dg
Re: Re-fletching carbons.... swamp, I take a cheap pocketknife with a REALLY DULL blade and scratch off the glue. With AAE Plastifletch vanes and super glue gel (cheap at wally world or any dept store), just glue the vanes and install. No prep is needed. No fancy name brand special adhesive is required or acetone. Not 100% on your jig, but probably. I'll punt that one.
Widowmaker
Re: Re-fletching carbons.... I HAVE BEEN FLETCHING MY OWN GOLD-TIPS FOR YEARS NOW. I USE A DULL KNIFE TO SCRAPE OFF MOST OF THE OLD FLETCHING AND THEN STAND MY ARROWS UP IN A CAN OF ACETONE. WHEN YOU PULL THEN OUT THEY WILL BE CLEAN. I USE THE PLASTIFLETCH GLUE THAT DG WAS TALKING ABOUT THAT YOU CAN GET AT WAL-MART. IT HAS WORKED GREAT FOR ME. I THINK ANY FLETCHER WILL WORK. I USE THE ARIZONA EASY FLETCH. ScottyLuck
Re: Re-fletching carbons.... I use a dull utility knife blade to remove vanes and scrape off the old glue. I then clean the shaft with alcohol to remove all the leftover "dirt". On new shafts I rough up the area with a grey ScotchBrite pad. Your Blitz will work fine. That's what I have. VTbowman
Re: Re-fletching carbons.... Same as aluminiums as far as I know. however its takes a bit more patients and be a bit more carefull scraping. I also used a green scrubby, then rubbing alcohol. I used Bohning Glue and your fletching jig is fine. I bought all my stuff threw Cabelas...
wtnhunt
Re: Re-fletching carbons.... Use a bitzenburger dial o fletch on my carbons and it works great. Use an old blade in a utility knife to strip away the old vanes, some adhesives recommend not using alcohol to wipe the shafts and I do not use alcohol when cleaning. Bought AAE plastifletch vanes, they came with fastset gel(super glue). Works pretty well for me.
dogdoc
Re: Re-fletching carbons.... i use fletch-tite for carbons and it works great--not as fast as the super-glue though. I also use a dull knife to scrape off the adhesive then a small amount of acetone to get the rest off. Then clean with alcohol. Use a really fine sand paper where the vanes go and use a Jo-Jan fletcher. todd
