Griz
Thought I would let everyone know whats been going on with me. I haven't had time to get on the forums in a while... I have been so busy here on the ranch it isn't even funny. I have been heading out at 6am. every morning and getting home at 10pm. at night. Been doing this 7 days a week. I have been hauling hay off the fields to the barn as the hay guys bale it. For awhile there I didn't think I was ever going to catch up with them. Well this evening I fooled them... As of this evening, I am now waiting for them to get some more rolled up... So as of now, I get tomorrow off...YIP-PEE!!!! SLEEP in day for me... Hahaha, Yeah, that's a joke... Heck I'll be up by 5:30 and ready to go again or one of them will be knocking on my door telling me that they are broke down or something...LOL... As of now we have 3000 round bales put up and they still have a long, long ways to go... It's now 11:10pm. and I am dog tired... Oh yeah and that pool I got... Well, it's still in pieces. I'm going to need some time to work on that and right now is not a good time...
wtnhunt
That is a lot of hay Dale. My neighbor up the road I used to buy hay from usually has several hundred bales rolled up by now, he said he has 90. Hope you get a break soon. OJR
I know exactly what you are going through! Farmers and ranchers never get any time off and it seems the work never ends! Been there and done that! That is the reason I left the farm when I was 17 and joined the Air Force! I've never looked back and haven't missed it! mandyjo62
that's alot of hay!! my parents been busy hauling in hay, too, while i do other random stuff, but not nearly that much hay! OJR, you're right about how the work never ends. as soon as we're done with that, we start calving heifers (yeah, we calve in fall, a little different) and then cows and then brand, hunting season, breeding... Griz
Yeah Orlan, the work on a ranch never ends... There is something to do everyday and if you can't find anything to do. Just look around...LOL... But here's the kicker... I'm the only one here that runs this 5000 acre ranch and I go 7 days a week... There has been many times I have just thrown my hands up and wanted to walk away... I get asked all the time. How do I do it by myself... I tell folks...I take it one day at a time, But the cows come first. With out them, I would go hungry...LOL... Ranch work... Yeah it can be fun at times but on the other hand, it is a rough life to with the long days... Maybe I should become a greeter at Wal-Mart...LOL... Been here going on 12 years... HarvDog
Sounds like you have been busy. Seems like that's the case for alot of folks right now. Hopefully things will start slowing down for everyone as we approach hunting season.

spcfoor
Do you own the ranch or just work it? I have put up a lot of hay when I was growing up in PA. We used to just use a square baler and put it up in the barn. Longest day I can remember was 18 hrs. I dont think I have been that tired since.
