dfol20
I need to have my truck inspected to get it registered, and I don't have a horn. Does anyone know where it is located on my truck, and how do I put in a new one if there isn't one there? I have a 2000 Ford Ranger. Thanks
Bownarow
When you open the hood I believe it is located on the right hand side toward the back. I would check the fuse for the horn first, that seems to be the most common cause for losing your horn. p.s. Then check the horn fluid level
Jeramie
Yep, ive seen them both on the wheel well and the firewall. With a 4-banger you should have quite a bit of room to find it. Check the fuse first and all connections. It could be something as simple as a ground wire.
dfol20
I can't figure out what fuse is for the horn, all I have is the 2001 owners manual. What does the horn look like? I don't think I see it.
Buckslayer
Try here for the horn. He is standing on the driver's side of the vehicle. Other than that, the fuse might be marked in the information sticker on the backside of the fuse block cover. There are two fuse panels on my 2003 ranger. One is on the fore area of the driver's door jamb. The other is behind the battery. Hope that helps!!
Shaun_300
I'd be definetly checking the fuse and relay first. if they're both good, get a test light, unplug the connector at the horn and check for power and ground on the two terminals with the horn pad pressed, one will be power and the other ground. To check power, put the clip of the test light on a ground and probe the terminals, one should light up. And to check for ground put the clip of the test light on the positive battery terminal and probe the other terminal, it should light up too. If there's no power you could have a broken wire, and if you have no ground it could either be the switch in the steering wheel because the switch grounds the horn or a broken wire. If you have both power and ground it has to be a bad horn. I don't reccommend trying to fix the switch yourself because of the airbags. even if the fuse for the airbags is pulled out, static from your body can still set them off by chance. And trust me, they can do some real damage. Good luck! Hope this helps.

Shaun_300
YIKES!!! We're supposed to wear grounding bracelets when we work on them. And I also detonate them all the time at work when we replace them, we can't throw them out without blowing them off. Definetly one of the favourite parts of my job, they sound like a shotgun going off. One of these days I'll take the camera to work and video tape it for ya's. Thanks The horn is located behind the inner fender in front of the left front wheel .. Passenger compartment fuse panel The fuse panel is located under the right-hand side of the instrument panel behind the kick panel. A fuse puller tool is located near the top left corner of the fuse box; this tool will assist you in pulling the fuses out for inspection, if necessary. Within this fuse box look for #13 Fuse which is an 15 amp fuse.. This fuse is for the HORN and Interior LAMPS . So #1 indicator that it's the fuse would be you don't have any Interior Lighting .. If this is the case you will need to check the Horns out themselves and the In-line Relays ..
