Steven
Seriously? When did Pittsburgh start letting 5 year olds name their mascots?

Guest Wackmaster17
Yeah I heard about this on PTI on ESPN today. I loved what Tony Kornheiser said about the new mascot name, I don't know if any of you caught this, but he said that it sounds more like a male pornstars name than a mascot! I almost wet myself when I heard him say that!
buckbuster11
Stupid idea. Mascots are alright for baseball, but football c'mon. This ranks right up there with the Browns elf mascot or whatever it is. One of the dumbest things I have seen in a while.
muggs
Steely McBeam....I'm serious Alas, we get to witness the end result of a large group of Steelers fans who have decided to put their heads together and come up with something they felt would be "creative" or I think they'd probably say it more like "creetave." We'll let John give us the correct pronunciation. Ladies and gents, meet the new Pittspuke "Stillers" mascot, a Mr. Steely McBeam. Yup, I'm being serious, they had an online vote and the name which was selected the most by fans, was Steely McBeam... If you're gonna go that route, why not just name it Phallus McWeiner?:o:eek::rolleyes: Not wanting to prevent the creative juices from flowing any further, this mascot is a yellow skinned guy with a caveman-like jaw, a flannel and overalls. I'm not kidding about that either, he's wearing a flannel shirt and coveralls. Why don't they just scream, "yup, we hilljacks and we know it!":D I'd like to hear Big Ben's take on this, am I right "people in TV land?" Whoahahahahahaha. Here's a link with a picture towards the bottom right of the page. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/rss/s_521249.html

muggs
It's an elf DB...... I don't care what it is...it's sweet. Sure beats a scary panther, lion, eagle, cardinal, seahawk, falcon ect.... talk about lame.
buckbuster11
Yeah it's way cool. Very intimidating too. Why don't you just get a ballerina for a mascot.
muggs
Yeah it's way cool. Very intimidating too. QUOTE] Yeah, Steely McBeam really has me shaking in my boots man. btw- why the "Mc" in "McBeam?" Is he Irish or is he an item on McDonalds breakfast menu? Which ever, it's really "McLame"...huddla huddla chuckle chuckle. btw2- The name, the uniform, the elf...it's all about tradition. Sure, it seems outside the "norm" of todays commercialize, generic, and politically correct NFL, but that's what makes is special. It all goes back to the 1940's bud, long before the Steelers (good name btw) were even a blip on the radar. You see, it's something special, something linked to the city and the social fabric of the region. You can't understand it if you're a young DB from Pittspuke...but that's OK, we don't want you to. Heaven forbid if I had to root for a team with teal, sea form green, purple or whatever in their uniforms and some generic name that has nothing to do with the town. They're the Browns man, and as of 2007, we're official back. I'm tearing up. btw3- the Browns win September 9th, that little elf guy is gonna be your avatar. Better learn to like it.
