Steven
Some of you veterans around here have followed me over my 3 year trucking adventure and have been very supportive. Thanks. Well, due to recent health problems undoubtedly brought on by trucking, it looks like it's time for a new adventure. I have a meeting set up for tomorrow at ITT Tech with admissions to discuss what looks to be my next avenue. Computer Network Systems. I originally thought my age, 34, would be a hindrance as I will certainly be competing in the market with people in their early to mid 20s, but a few friends I have talked to who are in positions making personnel decisions said they'd be more apt to hire someone my age who has shown enough desire to return to school rather than someone who may have gone to school just because it seems they're supposed to. Sorry about the run-on sentence, Chris. I know my way around a computer pretty well, but I can't always tell you what I did to fix something and I don't have a piece of paper saying I know what I'm doing. So, here goes nothing and hopefully I'll be on the road to a better place.

Rhino
Hard to believe you've been trucking for 3 years now. Doesn't seem that long to me but time seems to fly by the older I get. Best of luck to you on pursuing your new career Steven.
Newarcher
Dude, forget your age.....you could NOT be entering a field better at a better time. The baby boomers are starting to retire and demand for skilled positions is on the rise. You will never be without a job in networking...never. Believe me when I say that. What I can tell you is not to be a generalist. Be a specialist....know everything that you can and expand on everything you learn. You rock man.....34 seems old to you but it is prime for most employers. Past the calling in sick because we have been out partying too late and you aren't dying! Very exciting stuff man. Tominator
Good luck bud, I know you can do it. They are crying for network guys around here, in fact, they're giving Cisco certs to kids in high school now there's such a demand.

MCH
Good luck, Steven. Starting a new career is always tough. It sure can get boring setting behind a desk, though. Also, around here, 34 is young.

Steven
It sure can get boring setting behind a desk, though. Kinda like sitting behind the wheel of a big rig. Nothing like staring at interstate for 11 hours a day.

RangerClay
.I originally thought my age, 34, would be a hindrance as I will certainly be competing in the market with people in their early to mid 20s, but a few friends I have talked to who are in positions making personnel decisions said they'd be more apt to hire someone my age who has shown enough desire to return to school WRONG! You are showing commitment!! That is what employers are looking for. I would be more willing to hire you than some 20 year old kid who will probably not stick around. ps. I wish I was 34 again Good Luck Steven!!!
Texan_Til_I_Die
If you think you'll be happy with that type of career, go for it! ITT has earned a decent reputation in the field. I'm currently interviewing candidates for an IT Technician position and a couple of them have degrees from ITT.
