coles
there are soo many deer on the bird preserve there that they are opening deer season again. does only though. on this preserve you can only use bows but now that it is open again the landowner can let you use a rifle if they want to!!!!!!!! i cant wait till it warms up a bit to get out with the old 22-250. DannoBoone1
Re: i am soooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone who thinks a 22-250 is too small for deer hasn't used the 22-250 for deer. It's legal in Nebraska, and my Dad & brother have taken close to a hundred with that round. The important thing to note is that it is strictly a heart/lung shot cartridge, and it dooo turn lungs to red mush.

coles
Re: i am soooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!! i am going to use the 22-250 because the only other rifle i have is a custom 7mm-300wtby. i shot one doe with it this year and lets just say im not going to do that again. i was planing on shortranges head or neck shots with the 22-250 anyway. billygoat
Re: i am soooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!! Coles: Take the high percentage shot... I know plenty of guys that like that "head and neck" shot, but why take the chance.... place a solid shot to the vital region... your already a little under powered with your cartridge... and although there is no disputing it WILL put a deer down, I think you need to take a shot that will provide a "certain" clean kill... there is just to many margins of error in the neck and head... best of luck and happy hunting. wtnhunt
Re: i am soooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck. Yes a 22-250 will kill a deer, but dont think I would use anything smaller than a .243 even if it were legal here. Which it is not legal here. Minimum of a .24 caliber. Also have to agree billygoat on the higher percentage shots.
