Anyways, I am looking to get a video camera that is compatable with the Wildlife Eye, which requires a LANC port/plug. I found a Sony one that records on DV tapes, only problem is they do not have it at Sears (our old camera broke so they are crediting us and we get a new one). But they have the Cameras that record on DVD that have what is called a remote plus, I asked and assumed it was the same thing and they confirmed with me it was, so it should work. stevebeilgard Posted September 3, 2007 Report Share Posted September 3, 2007 i've been waiting to see what others say. i have a sony dvd cam/player. but i can't use it. can't post what i have. can't view them on my t.v. can't really do much. yet, i'm sure it's me. my kids buy me the best, knowing full well i'm an electronics zero. so be it. smallmunster Posted September 4, 2007 Report Share Posted September 4, 2007 The difference between dvd and dv is the format that the video is stored in. MiniDV is .avi format which is the best for editing video on your computer (assuming standard definition and not HD). DVD cams usually record in MPEG4 format (dvd format) which makes it playable on you dvd player right out of the camera. This option might be good if you don't want to edit on your PC before making your home videos. MPEG4 is not designed as an editing format and avi is. MPEG4 can be edited with the proper software but usually the quality would be a little less as MPEG4 is a compressed format and avi is not. I have not ever edited MPeg footage so I don't know that how well the average user would tell the difference, but I usually go for the avi format because I want the highest quality footage I can get. I think most of the guys running the wildlife eye type of setups are using minidv's or dvr's, but dont really see why a minidvd would not work.
