Interesting New Years

Well we had one heckuva a storm. I got up Thursday morning to an wierd glow in the west, but still had a good commute into work.

During the day, conditions got worse. A severe winter storm warning was issued. Rain started, changed to hail/sleet and eventually ended up snowing. The winter storm warning was upgraded to a blizzard warning by the time I left to go home.

It took an extra hour to get home and our road was already blowing in and almost hung the old Jetta on one drift.

Through the night the storm grew and blew and snowed. I woke up at 5:30 to a phone call telling me not to even start my car(i love my job/boss) as I was looking at the 8 ft drift infront of my garage! crazy.gif Jenn's car was basically burried in the drift.

So I spent the day digging out the snowmobiles because there was really no point to a car or truck. I went for a ride to see the condition of the roads. Our driveway had about 2.5 ft drifts on it(its about 300yards long) The way the shelterbelts are situated along the road there are 3 major problems spots. They all had about 7ft drifts on them. SNOWED IN!

We were supposed to travel to a friend's house for New Years, but that was no longer an option. To make matters worse, it was still storming and the plows had no intentions of heading out till it was over. Almost all the major highways in the south had been closed to travel.

We went to the neighbors by snowmobile for New Years. It was fun.

We finally were plowed out Saturday and made it to town for a couple of movies. On the way to town we heard that ANOTHER snowfall warning had been issued! That night we got another 2/3 of a foot.

So we woke up to some clear skies Sunday and another dump of snow. Once again dug ourselves out.

All said and told, we got close to 2 ft of snow. That might not seem like much, but anyone from the prairies knows that 2 ft can drift into some monster banks.

It was kind of an adventurous weekend.

I took pictures which I will post as soon as I get them off the camera and resized!

HAPPY NEW YEAR grin.gif
