Newarcher
Well, my company was bought out earlier this year and we had some pretty decent benefits (decent time off, good health insurance, etc.). We just received the benefits package for next year and I took a huge hit in pay due to the cost of healthcare. My deductible that was $200/450 is now going to be $1,000/$3,000 (individual family). The out of pocket max went up to $2,000/$6,000. The cost went from $194 per month to $250 per month....that's just the premiums. That doesn't include the amount that I now have to budget to cover my portion of the deductible. Once we meet the deductible, our coinsurance went from 10% to 20%. For a family that is struggling to make it on a single income, this really hurts. If I want to keep the plan that best simulates my current coverage, my premiums jump from $194 to $550 a month AND I have to take the 20% coinsurance. So basically, I just took about a $3,500 a year pay cut. I guess that is what happens when you have a 12 year old running a hundred-million-dollar-company. No kidding, his emails to the company come out with 8-) and ;-) symbols in them. Yeah, really. The kid is a 20 something that started his own company, which was bought by our parent company and they kept him around. When they bought our company, they let him be the President of our Company as well. They took the man who started our company and was basically a genious out. This really stinks. Tominator
I hear you. Every raise I get usually gets eaten up in raises in our insurance cost. And heck, I'm union. Seriously, this healthcare issue in America is going to come to a head sooner or later. I don't know what the answer is, but man, it's bad. toddyboman
We ( the company I work for) recently changed our insurance because it was going up so much. We was able to find a better company to offer us insurance, but our employees did see some increase. Health ins. I CRAZY. Its not even fair :(
Newarcher
Tominator reminded me of the other part.... Employees with reviews in the 4th quarter have been delaying until after the new year while the new company revamps its review process. Wanna guess who that affects? wtnhunt
Really the problems with healthcare coverages are everywhere New, can certainly relate. Might be glad you have insurance at all though, some employers in this area do not even offer plans. We had insurance at one time through blue cross blue shield on an individual plan, I got the plan cheaper than we could get the same plan through our employers due to their rates being adjusted as a result of the expenses they had to cover on that group plan on employees. Basically the group rates rose over time to the point they exceded individual rates. Your premiums you are complaining about are pretty cheap in comparison, think I was paying as much as $7000 a year for our family plan, an 80/20 plan with a $500/$1500 ded, no dental or vision in that either. Master_Chief
My gosh. I am sure am glad that I am retired Navy. I know the costs of healthcare are up there but I am glad that for now I don't have to deal with it. I really feel for families that are struggling. Hang in there. slugshooter
I am glad my wife got a job at a Doctors office across the street from where I work. The insurance at the college it outrageous, it's about 75 bucks a month just for me, which isn't all that bad, you add my wife thought and it goes up to 500 bucks a month, which basically means that since we got a 2 dollar an hour raise, I would be left with about 100 bucks on one paycheck, before I basically would have been giving up one whole paycheck on insurance.
