SuperMn106 Posted October 25, 2007 Report Share Posted October 25, 2007 My brother and I went out hunting tonight and he shot at a mature 8 pt. It was a 22 yard shot. He said the deer was quartering away when he shot. When he shot he said the deer let out a grunt and went sideways and then tucked his tail and ran full speed non stop as far as he could see, about 100 yards. When we got down to find his arrow we could not find the arrow or any blood. He is pretty sure that he made a good shot. His buddy said that mature bucks let out a grunt when hit hard. Since i have not had the chance to shoot one i am not sure. With all of that givin what does everyone think? I personally think he lodged the arrow in the opposite shoulder and that is why the buck went sideways at first. You could say some deer do and some deer don't. It's an animal and will be unpredictable whenever and wherever it feels like. No definite answer for you. The Kid Posted October 25, 2007 Report Share Posted October 25, 2007 i hit a buck this year quarting away high shoulder, found no blood for the longest time but then did a grid search and my little brother ended up finding the buck. i bet he hit him a little high and thats why there isn't any blood. i bet your brother hit the deer, if he thought he hit it he probably did. your best bet is to do a grid search!!good luck finding him. I agree, i bet the arrow is in the opposite shoulder and the body cavity had to fill with blood before it came out the entrance hole which i assume to be a bit higher than the usual exit wound.
