stolen treestand

Well guys, every year my season builds with high anticipation, only to have some unfortunate situation slightly take the wind out of my sails.

My family's property neighbors a property that, well let's say, the owner let's every "Tom, Dick, and Harry" hunt. My brother went to sit this particular set that we had just slightly on the neighbors property on Saturday night, only to arrive and found it was gone...stands, pegs, everything.

Do to the location of the stand, it makes me feel like I was targeted. It happened sometime over the course of last week because checked on the stand last Sunday...and it was there. My neighbor is about 80 years old and has never had an issue with me putting stands on his property. Usually, this site is the only place I ever hang. My other stands are on my farm, but because of the close proximity, it makes me feel like my other stands are in jeopardy. His property is not leased or managed by another hunter so no one has any business removing it.

What type of low life does this??? Just a bunch of crap!!!:mad:

Unfortunately thieves are out there in the woods helping themselves everywhere. Sorry to hear you're a victim.

I've been pretty lucky loosing only 1 stand to a thief that I can recall. A friend of mine that lives in the midwest has lost 17 stands to thieves in the last 10 years. Obviously some areas of the country are a lot worse than others.

Sorry to hear about that. We too have had problems with this in the past. Any stand I put up that might have a higher chance of getting stolen, has been getting locked to the tree. Whether it be with a treestand cable or a chain and padlock. I've lost a couple over the years and have come to realize that you can't trust anyone. We are all hunters who love the sport, but unfortunately, some chose to steal from others who have spent their hard earned money to get the equipment they want. Sadly, this will never change and all we can do is try and protect our equipment as much as possible.

I am more ticked off that the pegs were stolen than the stand. I placed an older stand in this location more or less because I wasn't sure how often I could hunt out of it. Total loss...with pegs...approx. $40.00 which isn't necessarily a lot, but more of the principal and unethical behavior.

You mess with the bull, sometimes you get the horns...if I find out who it was...there will be **** to pay.

It's bad enough, that we have to lock up our homes. You'd think something we leave out in the bush would be safe.

We've lost 7 stands over a period of about 15 years.

It doesn't seem to matter whether they are chained, locked and lag bolted to the tree either. If someone wants them, they take them.:(

I had a friend at church tellin me yesterday that in the National forest that he hunts in, someone was doing some scouting and parked their truck, well when they came back the truck had been vandalized, broken into, broken glass, etc. The owner saw some head lights coming, so they ducked in the woods to see if this was the person that did it or not, well the guy stopped, got out and slashed the guys tire. The haven't caught the guy, but it's a shame that someone would be that much of a jerk. Weird thing is, the guy had a treestand in his truck and the vandal didn't even touch that. It public land for a reason... so everyone can use it. :(

Guest DIRTY DUKE

Sorry that happened to you too. I had my climber stolen two weeks ago, I posted about it in the deer hunting forum. I still don't understand how someone would want to steal anything let alone steal from another hunter.

Low life scumbags, that is what a treestand thief is. How can they hunt in a stand that they stole and feel good about themselves? You stole a stand, someday you will face God if your lucky and stealing a stand is not going to look good on the old "Life Resume"

Sorry about your stand, maybe put the word out. Maybe put a sign on the tree that says thanks for not stealing my game camera that was 20 yards away! :) Make up a story that you got them on film, give them 3 days to return it or pictures will show up all around town!

See what happens as thieves return to the scene of the crime thinking another will be there for picking. Remember these are thieves, not the most intelligent people in the world!!!
