Rifle season opened yesterday here in Oklahoma. I loaded my hunting gear and headed to deer camp with Belle. We stayed in my camper friday night and I was in the stand well before hunting light. I saw a nice buck through the binos early but nothing the rest of the day. I was hunting the afternoon in shortsleeves. There's always the next day I told myself.

Today started with a nice cool morning and bright stars. I arrived in my tower stand a good hour before shooting light. The morning started slow but it was still great to be outside. I did a little light rattling and grunting about 30 minutes into shooting light with no luck. I heard a couple neighbors shoot and hoped they had scored. It was about to turn 8AM and I still hadn't seen a thing. As I'm scanning my hunting area with my eyes and see a "blob" that I didn't recognize just a few seconds earlier. Up come my Team Realtree Nikon binos and sure enough the blob is a deer--a microsecond later he raises his head and I see he is a nice mature deer. I bring my Tikka .25-06 up and find him in my scope. I don't have a shot yet as he is facing me now. He trots a few yards and gives me a clean quartering too shot. I place the crosshairs on the point of his shoulder--take a deep breath---and pull the trigger. He dropped in his tracks. A few minutes later I was standing admiring my trophy. A little disappointed that he had broke off his left browtine but that only lasted a few seconds. What a buck--I guess we do have a few nice bucks in Oklahoma.
