kidd
I shot a management buck this year so I thought I would try to do a shoulder mount. I have fleshed out the cape and now I am ready to either use hide preservative or tan it. What are your thoughts?? I have been told both ways. My normal taxy says to tan it but I have a buddy who did his own and said there is no need to tan the cape. Thanks, Nate
wtnhunt
Kind of curious to hear from some of the taixdermists here on this too. Couple taxidermists I know around here use dry preserve method. As a matter of fact, all my mounts were done that way, and they still look like they did the day I brought them home. Never knew that was how my deer were done until a couple years ago.
RTF
You must tan ! Dry preserve hides will re-hydrate and rot in the future. Tanning cleans and preserves hide for a long, long time and will prevent shrinkage.
