The other day I downloaded a new anti virus off the internet. It is AVG 7.5. Free addition. Now, I can't use my e-mail or until just this morning I couldn't get on the internet. What am I doing wrong? I had Mc Caffee, and that expired, so I thought I'd try this. I get an error when I try to check my e-mail, and My "spel cheque" doesn't work either!!

Sounds like the settings for your email program have somehow been changed Randy. Have you tried looking in add/remove programs to see if mcafee is there anywhere? The server connection failing should not stop you from gaining access to your email program, would just stop the new messages from coming in I think. Assuming you are on the same computer now, you have access to the internet, so you have an established connection the program is just not recognizing that for whatever reason. If you cannot figure it out, might call your isp. They can be pretty helpful.

You might also look in your internet properties by going into your control panel. Click on programs and make sure it has the right program set for your email whether you are using outlook or outlook express.

Sounded more like a browser issue than a virus issue. You get auto updates? Might want to change your setting to "ask" before installing them. Might be able to prevent something like that occuring in the future. Or at the very least, KNOW what caused the problem. I too have AVG and have never had a problem in over 2 yrs of using it. In fact, I got that in place of Symantec's NortonAV because I had so many troubles with the "paid" program. So don't let the $$ amount be your guide for a quality program.;)
