I'm a happy man....

He can't hit a curve ball. :p

I still think he's the best defensive center fielder in the game. Maybe he'll actually listen to the Dodger's hitting coach and improve at the plate. 36 million for two years is a lot of money for a guy coming off a .222 season.

To be honest, I wish he'd have stayed in Atlanta.

If I were Andruw Jones, I would listen to Don Mattingly.:D He's one of the few hitting coach's that actually knows how to hit.:D

Yet another overpaid guy who will under acheive. Great, the guy's defense is slipping and a good year is a .250 average, lets throw 36 million at him so he can be boys with Nomar and his weak hamstrings.

Nice move Dodgers...this actually makes the Pierre deal look good.

btw- imagine how many cheeseburgers can he buy with this deal. He'll get even fatter now...sweet.

LMAO

I expected nothing less.

We got him for two years, DB. In '08, his salary will be like 9 million. Not bad for a perennial gold glove CF with his power potential.

Honestly, who do you think is the better all-around CF out of these three: Hunter, Rowand and Jones??

I guy who strikesouts all the time and hits .220 is not one of the best all-around CF's:o sorry man.

I guess I would have put him in that category 5 years ago, but not now. Personally, I'd rather have Hunter. If I could choose anyone, Sizemore and Chris Young would be my top two. AJones is on the downside, definitely an upgrade over Pierre...if you have money to burn, but this ain't going to seel a WS ring for ya boys.

I guess it all comes down to whether you believe Jones' numbers last year were an indication of his decline, which I don't. If you compare his "bad year" numbers to Hunter's above average year, they are similar. So I could see how you could choose Hunter.

But, I believe Jones' numbers last year was an aberration. He may never hit .300, but I would bet he will finish over .250 with 30+ HR's and over 100 RBI's.

Craig, you're forgetting about Sizemore who has MVP potential bud.;) I'd be hard-pressed to think of one position player I'd rather have over him right now if I'm starting a team. Granderson is a good one too though.

Kev, I guess if you just go off the stats, the obvious decision would be to go with Jones. But I think Hunter brings more to the table in the intangibles department. Seeing how Jones didn't really have all that many suitors, and the fact the Dodgers only gave him a two-year deal, sort of show the luke warm feeling about him across MLB.

You also have to question the 50+ HR year- oddly that's timed perfectly with the roid boom...I'd be suspect.

I'm all for "intangibles", but a guy could hit .150 with 0 HR's and all the intangibles in the world couldn't get him a contract.

Fact is Andruw Jones is a better defensive outfielder than Hunter. Now, Hunter probably plays the wall better than anyone in the league but as far as errors, range and arm goes, Jones gets the edge.

I'd give the offensive edge to Jones as well. His numbers last year were his worst to date and he still finished only 2 HR's and 13 RBI's behind Hunter.

My only concern with Andruw is his physical condition. Like you mentioned, that spike in HR's came at an odd time, so we'll never know for sure.

But me and the Dodgers(:D) are banking on the fact that Andruw will outperform Hunter. Did you know that Colletti never offered Hunter a contract??? He knew who he was going after. I've got money that says Furcal had a little inside knowledge on Jones.:D

See, I think Hunter is the better outfielder right now. When they were both in their primes, no one could touch Jones, that's true. I just don't think he's still there offensively or defensively. I'm not really only basing this off last year either, and he certainly isn't chop liver but...

But really, the main thing that makes me indifferent on Jones is the fact that I'd question his motivation and effort, especially after getting a nice payday. Plus, out of all the positions on the field, CF, SS and C are positions I could live without having a HR hitter at, especially if it's an NL club.

Who knows though, maybe the change of pace will kick his arsh back into gear. This all said, I thought he'd be a Yankee for sure.

If Andruw can give me 20+ HR's and 100+ RBI's, he could strike out 50% of the time if he wants.:D

Seriously, though, the Dodgers needed a big bat. We were next to last in HR's last year. Plus, Juan Pierre is not a great defensive CF. I would wager that 90% of the time when a runner was on 3rd and a flyball was hit to center, that runner would score. The other 10% the ball was caught by Furcal or Kent.:D

Yeah, Granderson had a very nice year, but come on super. Honestly, Grady Sizemore has more speed, more power, is a much better fielder, and a much better baserunner...he's as throwback as they come and he plays the game right. The only real knock on Grady is his arm strenght which is really only average.

And, if you want to talk young CF's, Chris Young from the Diamondbacks is a 30-30 guy with potential for 40-40.

btw- the park he plays his home games in has a lot to do with Granderson's 20+ triples.
