Jeramie
Everyone probably remembers the ice storm from this past winter (early 07). Here we go again...... We have a ton of ice on everything and its been raining since yesterday. Yes, Raining. Its pouring down right now and whats odd is the thunder and lightening. The sky was lit up all night last night and thunder rocked the house. It literally sounded like a spring storm. However, the air temp is below freezing so its freezing to everything. When we went to bed last night there were already over 20K without power (just in our immediate area) and with conditions like this i'm sure its getting worse. Its truly a weird combination. I just ran out to start my car. The grass is covered in ice yet its pouring down out there. If the weather man is right, this should end at noon today. With the way its coming down, I have my doubts. Regardless, its already doing its damage.....
wtnhunt
Keep safe Jeramie. I cannot stand the ice and what comes from it. Been warm here, but the nasty stuff is coming this way.
Muff
WOW you can keep that stuff....I hate ice storms...give me snow any day.
Guest Finn
Be careful....hate that ice. Used to get that when I was stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene.
Tominator
We narrowly escaped that stuff, it was a bit too warm for it to freeze. I like a day off of school every now and then, but ice is the worst, no fun at all.
Shaun_300
Freezing rain is dangerous and destructive!! We had a real bad ice storm in 1998 where it left 5" of ice in some spots. Our power was out for 3-4 days, and some peoples were out for two weeks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_ice_storm_of_1998
MUDRUNNER
It's supposed to hit here tonight and into tomorrow.Just filled the generator up with gas yesterday in case the power goes out for a few days like last year.

cinch314
Yea I remember that storm quite well. Me, Nana and my little girl where in the living room and I heard something crack outside and then I jumped up and grabbed my little girl and started running to the back of the house and grabbed nana on the way and she was like what are you doing? About that time the big oak tree that WAS right beside the house fell through the living room. Yea it was messed up. My Dad has been without electricity since yesterday. OJR
That is some horrible weather conditions! Don't envy you in the least!
bfletch7441
It's definitely miserable out there! The roads are clear, the ground temperature is still above freezing, but everything else is shimmering with ice. A lot of Tulsa and the surrounding areas are without power, and will be that way for several days, but we've still got juice at our house. I hope everyone is OK. cinch314
Dad lives at Claremore and they said that a tree took down their powerlines. Not to mention that a big limb fell on Dad's truck.

wtnhunt
Think it was the 1998 ice storm that had us waking to the sounds of trees snapping in the woods beside our house in the middle of the night just before our power went out. Will never forget the sound, it sounded like rapid gunshots ringing out as the branches of mature hardwoods were snapping like twigs. We ended up without power for right at two weeks from that storm. Luckily have not had any ice storms as bad since, afraid we are due though. Really wanting to get a 12-15kw standby generator.
buckee
I remember an ice storm like that in Niagara Falls when I was a kid. Everything was laden with thick ice. Trees and power-lines came down everywhere under the extreme weight of the ice, and it was chaos everywhere. I gotta admit, it was pretty awesome to look at, but real dangerous. Stay safe, and don't go anywhere, unless you absolutely must.

bowin_in_illinois
Had our share of it this weekend, and more is on the way this evening. In illinois "the land of Lincoln" ...this says it all.
Turkeygirl
This morning the snow was crusted with ice..I had to go to the barn and slipped me way back. Our back road was a sheet of ice, although they had put salt or sand on, it wasn't on long enough then to do much. Main roads were clear but it was iffy for sure.
