VABuckSlayer Posted January 9, 2005 Report Share Posted January 9, 2005 Yesterday my brother and I went duck hunting at a property I call Paradise. We went to the end of a point that went out in the swamp. We were about 60 yards from the river. It was misty raining and cool. The neighbors had the river lined up on the other side and were kinda messing us up. Everytime we had birds get close they would start shooting and the birds would turn. We managed one Wood Duck and I went into the swamp to get it. I leaned next to a tree for a while watching birds in the "sanctuary" (landowner doesn't want us to hunt that area) when I heard some splashing to our left. It sounded like someone was walking to us. I turned and looked to see a WIDE racked big deer coming to us. I got my brothers attention and told him BIG BUCK to the left. It was headed right to him. The buck went right to the point mybrother was on and finally saw him at 5 steps. The deer jumped back into the swamp and ran/swam around us. It was a 7pt with approx. a 20"-21" inside spread. Figures he would show like that a week after the season ended. He should be a good one for next year! We came back after lunch and put my boat in the water till dark. We were trying to catch some crappies but caught a bunch of bass mostly. We caught 13 bass including 2 over 4lbs., 4 crappie, and 3 pickeral. Not a bad day for early January.
