Exciting but also Disappointing news

Well I got good news the other day. I got accepted to Penn State Main Campus and that is where I will be spending my next 4 years. Since that is 3 hours or so from my house it means I won't be able to archery hunt or rifle hunt for the next 4 years. I was excited to get in though because this was the college that I really wanted to go to, so I figure I'll make it through the next 4 years with no hunting, and with any luck maybe I'll make friends with someone who lives close and then be able to hunt on their land.

yeah man i went up to school in minnesota but i didnt really like it but if i would of stayed hunting would of took up all of my weekend because it was an hour above iowa and 45 minutes from wisconsin it was good hunting. I'd say just make some good friends up there that hunt and get into some deer up there if you cant find any friends that hunt do what i do to get hunting land i go from door to door and just ask everyone where i think would be good hunting land. as soon as the season is over i start knocking on doors and getting permissioin for next year.

Im a junior at the university of illinois, and i was in the same situation you were. It was 4 hours away from my regular hunting farm, so i was bummed. My freshman year i just got used to being a college student, but my sophomore year i was dedicated to scouting out some public land down there. After a few scouting trips, i drew on a doe and killed a coyote the first evening i hunted, and shot a doe the second evening i hunted. Although public land isnt as good (or as convenient) as private, it can still produce some good hunting. Hope you find someplace close! Good luck at school, but GO ILLINI!

the same thing happend to me 3 years ago but my college was in the middle of a huge city and on top of that i play college baseball so my time n the woods was very limited, it also didn't help living an hour away too, i'm sure there are bucks by your college, i would go and checkout any mom and pappa stores over there if they have any, and ask them wheres the good hunting land!

No hunting? Man C'mon. :)

Penn State is in the middle of freaking nowhere. There are places to hunt all over up there. If nothing else, you've got SGL's in every direction. You'll find a place to hunt in no time.

Congrats on getting accepted!!

Your not kidding there, Great hunting just up the road by Hower. Good fishing lake there too. You do a little looking around and your going to find some unbelievable hunting oppertunities. If now PM me and I can hook you up with some great area's within 40 min. of your dorm.

Good luck.

Jeff

Penn State's thanksgiving break ends the Sunday before the opening Monday of rifle season here in PA. I'm not able to have a car out there for freshman year so I probably won't be able to get "sick" and miss Monday's classes. As for after Christmas I will have time for late archery season, but its just not the same as early archery or rifle season. I figure I can hunt public land out there if I need to, but just my without having a car my freshman year sorta puts me in a predicament. LET'S GO STATE.
