maddhunter
I've been thinking about getting a 223 WSSM for yotes and was wondering if it would be worth the money $700+. Are they accurate out to the 400-500yrd range?
captkb44
I had one several years back and it was very accurate, but horribly destructive. If you are looking at keeping any hides then I suggest a different caliber.
WaCoyote
I've heard it's accurate however I've also heard it's a barrel burner. Not sure weather it's true. It does have a reduced mag capacity because of the fat shells which I would not want, and it really doesn't offer anything the 22-250 or the 220 swift doesn't already offer. Thats the direction I'd go. Probably the 22-250 if you dont reload and the 220 swft if you do. Ammo for the .223 wssm is probably spendy as well. All that said, you just not going to be shooting 400-500 yards at coyotes very often. So I wouldn't base my decision about a rifle purchase on that. Realistically 99% of hunters will be perfectly happy with the .204, .223,22-250, or the 220 swift 99% of the time. If you really think you'll be shooting out to 4&500 yards then you really need to be looking at a .243.
maddhunter
Well I think for now we will stick with our .223 and maybe tag the ol' trusty Browning .308 for long shots and hogs. I also was looking at the .223 WSSM to have it for yotes and hogs if they come along. The last hog I shot with our .223 varmit loads, it didn't even flench nor blead at all. And that was about 20yrds. But for $800-$1000 I think my son and I can each carry a gun !!!!!
