Trigger
Well I was trying to find a site where I could post this to get the best feedback, so I find myself back at the reliable Realtree forums! I am nineteen years old and my father is 53. My issue is that he is getting very unhealthy with the way he eats, and exercises, and is becoming obese. He works very hard for the familly working 2 full time jobs, a firefighter for the city, and a contractor. In his life he has overcome other addiction alcohol and smoking which i am very proud of him for that but i cant stand to watch him now shortening his life by unhealthy living. With every minute he gets he lays on the couch and eats junk food. Our family loves him very much but do not want to see him go down the same road my grandfather did. Now i am seeking your input on the situation. This always seems to be the best place for advice! Any suggestions or ideas how i should approach this? P.s. He is sick of moms nagging lol. BowJoe
Not that I am an expert but I think the best way for you to help him is to help him. Huh? Get him up and going for walks with you. Talk to him and not at him. Get your mother to go for walks with you too. And when you go for a walk, talk with him and don't start out speed walking. Do what I call wander walking. Just wander around until you feel like heading home. If you need to trick him then tell him you want to go for a walk so you can talk to him about things. You'll find that it will open up lines of communication you didn't even know were there for both you and him. If your mother gets to walking then it may help them communicate too. Ask him to join a gym with you and your mother as well. The biggest motivation is for somebody to do it with you. I know I joined a gym several years ago with the promise that my buddy would go with me. It was a key membership so we could go any time day or night. He never went with me once and I got really bored so I quit going. I know that if I had kept going that I would be in great shape now and not as overweight as I am. I know what would motivate me and that's all I can offer. Good luck.
stevebeilgard
i think you need to have a talk with him. tell him your concerns, tell him that you want him around for years to come yet. tell him that you want him to know his grandkids, which you will someday give him. the talk "with" him is just that. don't talk to him, don't talk down, just talk. hopefully, he'll listen
