Re: Looking for a Great Retriever...

a friend of the family had a Nova Scotia Duck Troller and it was teh worst dog i have seen! I am sure they are not all this way, but he had it from seven weeks, treated it like gold and it was the meanest dog ever. It would bite you for petting it, looking at it for too long, trying to walk around it, etc. For obvious reasons he never did much hunting with it, and finally when it was 4 he gave it away. I think it was eventually put down because nobody wanted to be near it. We have always had labs and they do very well grouse hunting as well as ducks. My uncle has a springer spaniel and it is one of the best grouse dogs i have ever seen. Surprinisngly he is a great duck retriever as well.

Novia Scotia Duck Trolling Retriever

I hear them called little river dogs ...I know they work great for retrieving ducks /geese and also you can't beat them for tolling geese and ducks ....and as far as pheasant/quail retriever I don't know but if you train them for it I can't see why not

Re: Looking for a Great Retriever...

Other than Labs there are tons of options out there...my uncle has a springer that does alot of duck work and she is **** good at it too, Chese's are awsome dogs. Plus there are the Versatile breeds.

---oh ya dont forget the Goldens....but i cant imagine de-tangeling that hair from burrs and such
