Turkey Chokes

You honestly won't know if any choke you buy will work with your setup until you shoot it. You have to pattern your gun sometimes with several different choke/ammo setups to get the best performance out of the gun. Even guns of the same brand and model may prefer completely different setups to get their best performance.

When I was setting up my turkey gun when I first got it I bought as many of my chokes as I could from my local Cabela's because even after I took them to the range and used them if they performed bad Cabela's still let me return them. It saved me a lot of money. It might be something to take into consideration is buying from a store that allows returns of chokes even after shooting a few times through them. Some of my chokes Cabela's didn't sell though, so I had to take a risk and just buy them and hope they work.

If you're asking opinions on turkey choke makers that people find reliable and perform well in most of their setups I'd have to say the top 3 I see people mentioning using and liking are Rhino, Primos Jellyhead, and Comp-N-Choke. I personally would love a Rhino choke with some Nitro ammo, but cannot afford the setup. Instead I use a Primos Jellyhead with Hevi-13 ammo and like the performance, but it's still pricey. So, when I'm on a budget or have trouble finding my ammo I have a backup setup using a Comp-N-Choke and Winchester Supremes that perform very close to as good as my other setup.

So, my recommendation is try as many combination of chokes and ammo that you can afford to try until you find one that patterns well and that you are satisfied with. :D

Chances are your Patternmaster for steel will be too open to give you the tight patterns you will want for turkeys.

I've been a long time fan of the XXX-Full Comp-N-Choke tube. It is the most consistent performer across the board I've found. I have yet to find a shotgun that would not throw acceptable 40 yard. patterns (or farther) with a XXX-Full C-N-C tube and a Winchester Supreme HV #6 shotshell. What I'm telling you is the quickest, easiest way out I know of. To do a proper & thorough job you need to round up as many tubes and types of turkey loads you can afford. Then be prepared to invest a good deal of time at the patterning board. it's a long process when done correctly. But it's a rewarding one as well.
