wildthing
Fellas...I wanted to see how long most of you leave your treestands up in the woods from season to season. I still have quite a few up from archery that I need to take down. The thing is, from archery to gun and even 2nd season archery...the season's extend into the winter and by then the cold quickly unmotivates me to take them down until spring. I am going to try and get them down in the next week or 2.
wtnhunt
My climber and hang on comes down shortly after season ends. Have several permanent stands, most of which are home made steel ladder stands, that get inspected over the summer.
craig mack
I take mine down at the end of the season.
rhine16
My stands stay up year round. Usually will go in and move the ones I want moved mid September. I hunt 95% of the time from a climber though.
Bowtech_archer07
Our stands stay up year round as well. When we are out blackberry picking, squirrel hunting, or if I get bored and just wanna take a walk thru the woods, we will check on them. We hunt out of ladder stands mostly. Guest Heritage Hunters
We're always adjusting/inspecting stands and stand locations in the Spring/Summer. Sometimes we need to move them, change them out, or retire them completely, but it all makes for something to do to get us pumped for the season. We're fortunate to have over 30+ stands in 3 different counties and that makes it tough to get them down after the season.
fly
I use a light climber that goes in and out each time I hunt. I hunt public land and a privately owned farm. I've never had a stand stolen and plan to keep it that way. Prior to the days of my climber I always took my chained ladder and stand down on the last day of the season to prevent weathering and thieft. BearClaw
I put mine up around August and leave it up until sometime in January. I use a hang-on but the ladder is still up and will probably stay there now.
beagleboy
I have two ladder stands that I leave in year round and usually move them around before the season.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
The property we hunted the last couple years we left em up until early April. Actually just took em down for the last time on that land a week ago. On state land I use a climber, don't trust anyone to leave it out there or any stand for that matter. HUNTINGMAN
I leave my ladder stands in the woods all summer but take my climber down after every use.
LifeNRA
I never leave my climber out. I read somewhere that as the tree grows it can put a strain on the fasteners that hold the stand to the tree. Which could result in a failure. Just be careful! RangerClay
I leave mine up year round but I remove the seats so the squirrels and porkies don't eat them.

Guest Bowhuntnsteve
I only have 1 and I leave it up year round because I am the only person who has permission. The rest just trespass . But I check on it all the time to make sure its all good when I am picking up the cards from my deer cams. I also take the seat off it so the squirrels don't make a nest out of it. I pack that in & out when I use it, just shove it up my back inside my coat and head on it..
Rhino
Fortunately stand theft is not a problem on my home turf. Any climbers left on trees come out at or before the season is over depending on where they are and how much I'm using them. About 1/2 of my hang on stands are still in the woods but the stick ladders and stands left on trees are all loosened up near the end of the season or right after the end of the season. All of them get inspected and if any of them need anything done to them, they get pulled. My ladder stands stay in the woods but they were all loosened up at the end of the season too. A couple of them were moved to the trees where they will be used this fall right after the season was over. Preseason treestand preparation usually starts again for me around the last week of June. I have a climber and 3 hang on stands that I only use on road trip hunts so they're been in my garage since I got back from Iowa this past November. Hopefully they'll be in the woods in Kansas this fall.
HOYTnMUZZYboy
I have about 15 hangons that i leave up year round, i check them when im out mushroom hunting, and then again towards the end of august. I mainly use my lonewolf climber tho, fell in love with it first time i used it, its nice to be able to be shifty when you decide to set up a lil differntly. Swamphunter
I take mine down after the season as soon as possible. Northern winters can be harsh on them, and unfortunately, one of mine got stranded this year due to the amount of snow we got. I was unable to get in there to get it out. I am getting ready to go get it in the next week or so though.
Adjam5
I read somewhere that as the tree grows it can put a strain on the fasteners that hold the stand to the tree. Which could result in a failure. Just be careful! This is true. The tree does grow and will stretch the straps and even break the ratchet strap teeth to accommodate the growth. If it can't do that it will grow around the stand and most likely reder it useless. I have a few ladder stands and 2 hang ons that I leave up year round. Just check the straps, give them room in the summer, tighten before the season and fill if you could, the hollows of the stands with expanding foam. That way it keeps water and bugs out of the hollows of the stand. A wire brush and some spray paint will help with the rust spots in the off season.
