coles
here is my story and pics for the decal...enjoy! When my best bud and i were juniors in highschool we decided to go bowhunting for elk for the first time since we didnt have a football game. We left town at 4:30 in the morning which was a little early considering it was only a 30 minute drive to the mountains and when we got there we still had almost 2 hours before daylight. So we caught up on some sleep in the truck waitin for the sun to peak over the horizon. Once it got light enough to see we jumped out of my truck and got geared up and started our adventure. After about an hour hike we came up over the hill and looked into a big bowl. It was the classic elk country full of grass and aspen trees. We let out a few bugles and cow calls but nothing responded so we hiked down through the bowl and up the other side. We made our way through the trees while keeping an eye our for grizzlies. We made it up to another little park and stopped by a big burnt pine tree to take a rest. We picked everything back up and let out another bugle and cow call as a last chance effort. Just as we were turned around to walk back to the truck AJ shouted out that there was 2 bulls running right to us down the mountain! And of course i didnt believe him until i turned around and saw them standing on the horizon! i coudlnt believe it. Then the best thing happened. They bolted down the mountain at full speed right towards us. We both ran for cover and AJ set up about 40 yards behind me while i set up on the trail i thought they were coming down. AJ started cow calling. I had just enough time to get an arrow nocked, my face mask on and my release clipped on. By this time they broke out of the pine trees and were running down the trail that was only 5-10 yards in front of me. The biggest bull was in the front and just as he got in front of me he turned 90 degrees and ran straight away from me. at about 20 yards he turned quartering away and stopped. I let my arrow fly and my heart sank when i saw it hit him in its left hind quarter. he ran out of sight and i walked back to AJ with my head hangin low. I just knew we were goin to be chasin the bull all over the mountains. We settled down and had a snack and followed the blood trail after half an hour. we walked a little ways and i looked up and could see the bull laying on top of a little hill still alive only about 75 yards in front of us. we didnt know what to do next. AJ thought i should shoot him with my pistol but i knew that was out of the question. So we just sat and waited and watched. After about 15 mins he thrashed his head and legs and laid his head down. We waited a couple more mins and walked up slowly. HE WAS DOWN FOR THE COUNT!!!!!!!!!!!we both screamed and yelled like a couple of girlscouts who just saw a spider! after the screaming and hugging was done we gutted him out and packed out the head to the truck to go back to town and get my grandpa and his pack horses. We stopped by his house and showed AJs mom and all she could say was that his dad was goin to be mad since he was gone for the weekend on his own elk huntin trip. then we went to my house. i put the head out in the yard and we both walked in covered in blood. My dad and mom saw us and thought we had just shot a muledeer doe or a coyote. Then i pointed to the bull elk in the yard! My dad couldnt believe it. A couple of highschool kids just went up, called in a bull to 10 yards and killed it! and with bows to top it off! So i called my grandpa and met him up there with the horses and we had the bull quartered up and in the truck by 4 that afternoon. we even made it back to town and got cleaned up in time to watch our girlfriends play volleyball that night! I will never forget that day. The day my best buddy and me killed OUR bull. Here is the pics. I hope you enjoyed the story.

fly
Sooner or later most hunters make a poor shot. I'm not an exception. I'm glad you were able to harvest your bull with your friend. Maybe you could send me your lucky hat for my upcoming bear hunt.
