came back from having my new bow set up and now i can star practicing i was told that must shots are in the area of 20to 30 yards and i should star at 10yards and work my way to 40yard also that the way to grip the bow is with your hand open ,how do you control the bow ? any help would be appreciated

Well, you want to grip your bow with just your thumb and index finger and relax the other three. That's the best way to control your bow. Most shots are indeed going to be within 15-30 yards, but, with a compound especially, you need to be prepaired for those longer shots on rutting whitetails. I hunt with a longbow and a recurve for the most part, so I mostly limit myself to 20 yards or less. Good luck!

What they said! Also, do you have a wrist sling? If not, you might want to think about getting one! Because I shoot with an open hand as well, after the arrow is released I close my fingers. The wrist sling will help you, once the arrow is released the bow naturally will want to jump forward. Having the wrist sling will help keep the bow in your hand.

That is for sure! I have a wrist sling on my Bear Kodiak Magnum and love it! I don't think I'll ever go back to compounds.
