Guest HHcomet09
I have a stand I need to put up. We have a 43 acre plot of land that consists of 3 hay fields. It is surrounded by woods. In the front field by the road I am contemplating putting a stand up because it is by the road. However, it has a little natural spring that runs through the tree line.I saw several bucks there this fall so far. My other option is way off the road in our third field. There is no water but there are acorn trees that line the field. I am unsure of what to do.. I can bait so if that helps with the spot closer to the road. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
whitetailhunter32210
The best thing to do is do some scouting. Look for tracks and other deer sign. Hunt were the most deer are. If it is dry in your area like it is here, deer are going to be hanging near the stream, just scout and make your decision by the signs you see

Grizz
I'll have to agree that scouting is definitely the best way to make a decision, but if your short on time or don't want to disturb the area until the season starts here's my $0.02... I've hunted along hay fields, corn fields, soy bean fields, in a group of oak tree's, along rivers and ponds, ect., and this is what I've seen. When the acorns are dropping, and there are deer in the area, 9 times out of 10 they make a stop to clean up whatever's fallen on the ground at some point in their day. I've had em in there first thing in the morning and I've had them in there right at dark, but when the acorns are dropping the deer are there. As far as a water source goes...When I've hunted in the oaks as the acorns were falling it just so happened it was right along the edge of a pond, and that pond was the only available water source within at least 5 miles. And out of all the deer I saw, only a few of them ever stopped to get a drink and then continue on. Most were more interested in getting to the acorns, then heading to the field to graze, or heading to their bedding area, depending on what time of day it was. Once the acorns were done dropping though it was off to another tree for me b/c the deer would always move out. Hope that helps.
