Guest Colorado Bob
South African plains game safari is going to have to wait. I just took my trip money & bought 300 shares of GE. The way the market is getting hammered there are starting to be some buys out there. GM is @$4 a share----Ford is @$2. Almost penny stocks. Jeramie
I didnt know it had dropped that cheap! I heard last night on the news that GM had tanked but I didnt expect those numbers! I may have to try and dig up some cash to invest. Its the perfect time. We will eventually climb out of this mess and when we do those stocks will rocket again... JJL
Gas prices have caused the decline in sales for GM & Ford. Stocks drop. Gas prices are dropping as well. Sales will pick up. Stock prices rise. Simple..............you're doing it right Bob. Africa will still be there.
stevebeilgard
congratulations, bob. you picked stock in ge, which is the worst anti american company in america. they are STILL doing business with iran, helping to kill americans. sorry to say, but i hope you lose every penny of your african money. stevebeilgard
good point, bob. i hope you've checked all your stocks with equal enthusiasm.... i was trying to tell you that there is a solid REASON ge stocks are going down, and it may well end up in bankruptcy for them. do some homework, and maybe save africa... JJL
Kind of interesting though, how all of the major US stocks were up today except GE..........
stevebeilgard
jim, until they dump jeffery immelt, ceo of ge, it will go down the tubes. imho. most folks are paying attention to the stock they buy, and most stocks are a great deal right now. but, one has to compare earnings ratios before purchase, and a miriad of other components. ge used to have a great "blue chip" name, but that's all over today with immelt and what he's doing. and look at some of his subsidary companies like nbc. it went from one of the big 3 to the bottom of the trash heap under immelt. dump immelt, and you may have a chance of success as ge and it's companies may well rise again. just not until immelt is gone. and i'm glad you noticed that ge didn't move up today. that speaks volumes. JJL
The Auto Stocks are very volatile right now, but that usually signals a chance to make money if your "stones" are big enough. I opted out of commenting on the GE stock for the same reasons you mentioned. You on the other hand, HAMMERED you point home. We just spent $15,000 on new appliances for the house..............none of them were GE.
stevebeilgard
i didn't mean to hammer anything. sorry if i hurt your feelings, bob. i really didn't mean to slam. but, i do feel america comes first and you were unaware of what is going on in ge. i also believe you will lose your money with ge. i'll drop the point with one final comment. i was a licensed nasd securities (stock) broker in 1969-70. i still stay somewhat aware of what is going on with the market. it was just a high paying job that would have killed me, so i quit and bought mutual funds and other investments. OUTDOORLIFE3
steve, then what would you recommend investing in?
stevebeilgard
i'd recommend checking out mutual funds. the average fund makes 15% a year on a 10 year average. what you are basically doing is hiring professional brokers to manage your dollars along with hundreds of millions of other dollars. this beats the heck out of ameritrade and the others, where a person simply puts money in a stock. probably the movie closest to truth is "wall street". being a broker is a high tension job with huge risks. i got out fast. but, with what i learned i also have my personal funds in mutual funds, real estate, and gold. two exceptions to my rule are wal mart and mcdonalds. i have stock in each. i tried to tell bob why he's going to lose his money so he can get out easy as soon as possible. and if he stays, i hope he loses his money. simple as that. he now knows my thoughts and now life goes on... silvertip_co
I would do same if I had extra cash. The market is down to where prices per share are pretty good. Great time to buy stock or a home if in postion to do so( which I am not). Good luck on it.
