bghunter777
I have been scouting an undisclosed peace of public land in ohio i have seen a 150-160 inch buck over the summer. about 4 weeks ago they built a gravel road that leads to an old lake about 100 yards from where i have been seeing this buck my question is how much will this disturbance effect this buck will it cause him to completely leave the area or just change his paterns. the area i want to hunt still seems to have descent deer movement trails ect? backwoods07
I actually studied this in school..It's called habitat fragmentation and it does have adverse effects on animals when it happens on a large scale. This seems like a very small road and if there is no other construction plans, the deer shouldn't seem to mind it too much. It may alter his travel slightly, but I don't think it would be enough to push him out of the area.

Tominator
about 4 weeks ago they built a gravel road that leads to an old lake about 100 yards from where i have been seeing this buck Right there is what I'd be worried about. Now everybody and their brother has access to your area.
bghunter777
Right there is what I'd be worried about. Now everybody and their brother has access to your area. actually the main road is only about 300 yards from the area access is not a problem its a gravel road with about a 300 yard feild that has a swale in the back of it that stretches for probably 100 yards that is where this buck was coming out now with the addition of the new road it is about 100 yards on the the other side then goes away from my hunting area. i plan on hunting a ridge that has active scrapes and trails. probalby 200 yards from the field edge it seems like a no brainer to catch this buck in the rut its a perfect set up and funnel lets hope other hunters dont also feel this way. being public land you just never know. Illinois59
I wouldnt worry about the road. Many years back we had a paved road and bridge put in by the township. I was having fits. It didnt affect the deer movement at all. Good luck.
bghunter777
We're talking about a whitetail, right? ok ok point taken maybe not a no brainer but a likely area for a quality whitetail to pass.
