I have seen this happen with aluminiums just as much as carbons. Well, maybe not as many since when an aluminium arrows bends it normally holds that bend making it undesirable to shoot so it will be set aside. Carbon flex and go back to straight even if they are damaged. Damage can be on the inside not just the outside making it hard to detremine if they are at all damaged. The flexablilty advantage carbons have over alum is what makes them more forgiving when you do not hit your intended targets. However IMO it can hide damage as well. The old adage with carbons, there either striaght or broken. Think about that... If you damage one it will break eventually. The same with alum. I will still use carbon over alum any day. Check the spine ans shoot correct arrow's and you'll be fine. Have yet to shoot my cabela's arrows yet but i know i'm gonna like them more than all the bent alumminums i have downstairs. I'll bet that arrow had a spot that was damaged, especially since your uncle shoots as much as he does. The biggest difference is minor damage to aluminum arrows usually manifests itself as a bent arrow. If you shoot one of those damaged or bent aluminums I promise you it will POP. Carbons are always straight EVEN if they are slightly damaged. You should visually inspect them after ever shot. Flex them and listen after you remove each one from the target. Damaged arrows often make crackling sounds. Something to think about: Usually when it comes time to refletch an arrow, it has gotten that way because of a tight group. In my experience damage occurs to shafts that have been grouped tightly repeatedly and are in need of new fletching. Often they are damaged beyond keeping anyhow. He's been trying to talk me into switching back to aluminum like he did, but I never really gave it much thought until I read all these posts. I didn't realize this was such a big problem.
