ILSNIPER1 Posted January 27, 2005 Report Share Posted January 27, 2005 Hi All, I just got High-Speed Internet hooked up on Monday & was told by a friend that has the same service that I should dump the supplied cable modem & buy a better & faster one! The one he has is a little faster (3+MBsec) then the one they give you but, he has problems w/his dropping the signal!? I'm not complaining about the speeds I'm getting now (2.7MBsec) but, I figure a little more would be nice! I've been on "Dial-Up" for years & got one heck of a deal on EXP Basic Cable & Internet, free install & hookup for $60.99 a month for 12 months guaranteed! Any suggestions on what to buy? A modem is for modulating a digital signal into an analog signal, and demodulating digital into analog. The word MODEM is a combination of MOdulate and DEModulate. Modem (n) : electronic equipment consisting of a device used to connect computers by a telephone line. So, what you really have is an ISDN, which stands for Integrated Services Digital Network, which allows voice and data to be transmitted simultaneously across the world using end-to-end digital connectivity. I see the comcast and other commercials, would be nice to have, but no cable companies have lines running this far out.
