...Was my Wallet at the mechanics shop this afternoon.

Rear Axle Seals(and labor), 4 shocks(and labor), 4 sets of brakes(and labor), and new rear-end rotors(and labor of course).

I may have to get a new wallet...I think the bearings went out on it during the process of it venting

$765 at blinding speed!

Strange thing is this whole new idea of being able to actually control the vehicle...it may take some time..but I might get used to it:rolleyes:

At least by now, after all the other repairs in the last year(feul sending unit, heater core, front windshield,battery,etc..etc..etc), most of the truck is NEW:D

About the only thing thats OEM anymore is the Paint!

Of course my Wife, the sentinel of common sense, decides to attempt to talk me out of my funk on the way to the shop this afternoon. Knowing full well that I had made up my mind to be frustrated for no good reason, that the truck was now much safer to drive, and in the process of reminding me that the truck is completely paid for said:

"Here's your Sign"

So being the dang fool I promised her that I would, confess In Public, that..

"But Honey...It's Hunting Season" as an excuse does not justify being stupid about taking care of the truck...that actually gets me to my "Hunting Season".

I love the Woman and I keep my promises to her...but I'm still thinking about unplugging her side of the electric blanket tonight:p:D

.....A safe, warm truck with well-working brakes, good snow tires and an 8000 pound Warn winch ....spells "I think ahead and care about you" ,to me...

-You did good, in my opinion, and I'm sure she secretly, deep down appreciates all the preventative and repairs on the truck-

-but yes...-"OUCH" - the vehicles do bite, don't they!

Wow, that's pretty cheap for all that work Gary!! I made an estimate yesterday for just a 4 wheel brake job on a Silverado, two new rear rotors and machine the fronts, new pads all around and it was $940! Parts and labour are more expensive up here I would imagine, like everything else. Labour rate at the dealership I work at is $95/hour. :o

I really have to raise my rates. I have worked on heavy equipment, farm machinery & automotive vehicles for 25 years. About 5 years ago I changed occupations, still a mechanic but on totally different stuff. I really don't miss working on vehicles, etc. every day either. I still do some work on the side for extra money. I charge $20 an hour. That is also flexible. If I feel that it has taken me to long on something I will adjust what I charge. I do lots of brake jobs. I charge $60 labor for a complete brake job. Plus whatever the parts,rotors/drums(new or refaced) cost. Don't make anything on parts, charge them whatever they cost me. I just do this on the side for a little extra money. Just kidding about raising rates.

I went for an oil change. The tech said my mileage indicates I needed this service and that service and also it wouldn't be a bad idea for this or that......"How much?" I asked...

"$480 with everything!" he replied.. I can remember when that was a down payment on a late model car!

What kind of mileage is on your vehicle and what did he reccommend servicing? PM me if you want to with a little info on your vehicle and I'll tell you what's best to do to it for maintenance. Dropping a few bucks down on maintenance can save you thousands on big parts like engines, transmissions, differentials, transfer cases, etc. There are a few things that dealers sell that are kind of stupid though and as a mechanic at a dealer see no "real" need to do, so I don't reccommend doing them. Just let me know, I don't mind giving anyone advice what to when it comes to vehicles.;):D

Thanks Shaun...That lessens the pain a little bit;)

The labor charge here is $62 an hour.

Up there you guys charge $33 more for that extra letter in LABOUR:D

It does handle much better now and when I was walking out of work I looked at the truck tonight acrossed the parking lot and it looked kinda strange. It looked like someone had put a "Body Lift Kit" in it as high as it looked off the tires. Must have gotten used to the ruff ride of the bad shocks:o
