Steven
So, we got a good ice storm here last night and this morning. My area got anywhere from 1/2" to 3/4", enough to make the roads bad for some but fun for me. This was also the first winter storm since I bought my Grand Cherokee. I think you all know where I'm heading with this. First, I needed a reason. When I'm in town, I park my big truck at my dad's work. They didn't work today so the parking lot should be nice and icy. "Hmm, I should probably idle my truck for a while so the batteries don't die". I have established a need to go out. So, I deice my Jeep and venture into the great slick roadway. And being in Ga, we don't have too many salt trucks or road scrapers. This should be fun. I head out. I could've gotten there on one of 3 major roads, but where's the fun in that? I chose a back road which promised more adventure. Every turn I took faster than I really should've, but no dice. The Jeep hugged every curve, sadly. Finally I get to my dad's work and as I expected a clean parking lot awaited me. Fun was garuanteed. I found a nice open space out in the middle and gunned it. A sharp left turn would have been the beginning of good times, but no. The Jeep made a controlled turn to the left. I continued onward weaving back and forth begging for at least one good spin. Nothing. I left the parking lot a saddened and disheartened man. I never got around to idling my truck. Stupid full-time 4WD. Jeep why hast thou figured out optimum traction? Shaun_300
Re: Stupid Jeep LOL those full time 4x4s are great, but not when you want to have fun on the icy and slippy roads eh! i see a lot of those things up here, i dont think i would ever drive one that is full time 4x4, but maybe 4x2/4x4. i sure like the pick-ups though. those are fun in the empty parking lots!! OJR
Re: Stupid Jeep Yep Racksie, my Olds Bravada does the same thing and it sure is nice knowing the wife is driving it!!! LOL!! I on the other hand drive my Chevy 4X4 and leave it in 2 wheel drive until I really need the 4 wheel drive!!
fisherguy
Re: Stupid Jeep Well that is no fun at all!! Must be reassuring to know it handles that well for the highway, or really hairy conditions, but no good for goofing around. Guess you'll need to go trade it in for a pickup. VtBowhunter
Re: Stupid Jeep Oh the joy of my rear-wheel Silverado, lol. At work we have a huge parking lot. Last night after I got off from work I started the truck and talked to the guys for a bit. When it came time to leave I was parked facing the building. I punched the gas, cranked the wheel and with very little effort I was facing the road.........I love playing on ice.
Strut10
Re: Stupid Jeep I feel your pain, Racksie. The Mrs. has a V-8 Limited with the full-time Quadra-Trac. You'd think, with the torque of the 8, you could get it to bust loose by stabbing the throttle going into a turn. Nope. The first time I ever put the 4WD to task was in 8 inches of fresh and still falling, wet snow. We went out on the highway and made the first set of tracks through the stuff........at 50-60 mph. Could not get the goofy thing to lose its manners. I gotta get in my Cherokee where I can kick the front axle out if I wanna go cut some "nummies". In a Silverado to boot! I think dead end roads were built for donuts! My kids sure did like it.
Strut_Buster
Re: Stupid Jeep I love my danger Ranger in 2x4 in the snow.. spins can't even move with 5 sandbags in the back. 4wd is a must in the winter for me. 2wd is play wheel drive for me.
