Just cant sleep. So I sit here on the couch with my laptop thinking of reloading, taxes, turkeys, taxes, turkeys, etc.... If only I could force the sun to come up 2 hrs early, i'd be set to go hunting before work. I hate this new time change. We used to could hunt a bit for half the season here till it went into effect around april 1st.

Brother Insomniac...check to see if your possibly drinking any coffee or sweet tea after 5PM in the evening.

I used to blame my insomnia on having been a tractor/trailer driver in the past...but it really was linked to the amount of caffiene I was pumping into my body forcing it to stay awake.

In your case it sounds like you've got the "I Aint Turkey Hunting Enough" blues on top of whatever else is going on:p:D

Don't feel bad Ruth, i've been out of school 15 years and still ocasionally dream that i had to go back because i failed a test.

Gary, i load up on the caff early in the morning, then seldom take any after about ten a.m. I think the biggest thing is that i have an ailing mother-in-law in the house and she's hacking and getting up all hours of the night. I rarely get up before 5 anymore and hardly ever sleep past 6, with or without an alarm clock, but had problems going to sleep last night, and woke up early too. I started a low fat diet trying to shed a few pounds lately, and i think that probably has more to do with it than anything. Nothing like a greasy pork chop to aid in snoring! :p:D

I feel ya brother,My work shedule keeps me up and from going to sleep at weird times.I got off sunday afternoon at 7pm and have to go back in tonight at 7pm,we work som messed up hours and my body has a hard time adjusting to them.My doctor gave me some pills to help me sleep and seems to be working with the transitions,I just take them when I am going to have like one day off.I used to just go out and drive around on back roads at night when I couldnt sleep, seems this would help relax me and then go home and get back in bed, good luck wiwth the sleep.

Yep I go through that every now and then. I know my problem though is I drink too much ice tea. If I'm up though I'm not going to think about taxes...twice.:D

Yep used to be the 1st Sunday in April. Now thanks to the Energy Policy Act of 2005 that went into effect in 2007 we won't see those days again unless it's repealed. But...our season is longer than it used to be too. It used to open on the 1st Saturday after March 15th and end on May 1st. On average we probably get 6 or 7 more turkey hunting days now. Guess you take the good with the bad.

Dang rhine...sounds like you made a class scheduling error. When I was in college I always tried to schedule my spring semester classes where I didn't have classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday before 11:00. :p:D Couldn't do much with the Tuesday and Thursday classes though.

Where you going to school?

And to add insult to injury, I didnt hear one freaking bird at the camp. We've had that place going on four years, and havent killed a bird yet. It's pathetic. I have reservations about making the 50 mile drive to hunt the bienville nat'l forest, due to the fact that i just dont like to hunt public land (esp for turkey). I've managed to scroung up a few birds on small tracts here and there, but last 2 seasons have come up empty handed. Really sux. I'm thinking of going to the groc store, buying a turkey, then taking it out and shooting it so that i can have the satisfaction of spitting out some lead at supper time.:mad::rolleyes::)

That's great, what's your major?

Accounting...(I think :D)

I used to hunt down 25 there on keaton tower road down near the dead end when i was in school. Used to be some good early bowhuting there once the initial crowd thinned out.

Yeah I think Keaton Tower road is supposed to be where the majority of the turkeys are. That'll be the first place I try out.

I bowhunted on the west side of 25 this year(just about a 500 acre block of woods there) and down around the main building.

Biggest buck i ever saw in my life was in columbus. You should check it out. Army corp of engineers land, archery only, just across tombigbee river bridge, south of 82. I shot a big six pt like an idiot, then 3 massive racks ran out that were right behind him. first day i ever hunted there. I learned the value of patience and summer feeding patterns (bachelor groups) that day the hard way :(

Check this out:

http://tenntom.sam.usace.army.mil/pdf/wld/hunting/Lowndes_Monroe.pdf

I hunted AL-18, right in columbus. Several archery areas in that area and i found pressure to be much lighter than John Starr or Noxubee Refuge, only 20 min from State. Some of the other areas were ML or slugs only.

I miss those days, all i wanted to do was get out of school, now I'd just like to go back...lol..

Thanks very much, I'll have to check that out. Currently working on maybe getting a lease there for next year. Not sure why I want to though, my farms aren't but 50 miles from school
