swohiodave Posted April 27, 2009 Report Share Posted April 27, 2009 How many of you guys (and girls) have given a two week notice to your employer? I am going for my pre-employment testing tomorrow and to fill out some paperwork for a new job. The problem is the company I work for is the business center for 7 hospitals, but 3 have recently left and one is not open yet. One of the bunch is up for sale and outside companies have made offers, it is still up in the air if our company is going to be able to purchase this hospital as we only own the new one that is not open yet, the rest only have an opperating agreement to work together. We have had 2 rounds of layoffs and more to come and that is why I am looking for other employment. In my new role I will be a reimbursment accountant for a hospital that has recently partnered with two of the hospitals that left our system! It makes me a little nervous to give my notice tomorrow morning as I will only be working there this coming week and next. How do you calm your nerves for something like this? Just be professional, ask your present boss for a meeting, prepare your written notice, then have a meeting. Be prepared to answer questions as to why you're leaving and don't get negative. Hoosierbuck Posted April 27, 2009 Report Share Posted April 27, 2009 I would talk to the boss and submit a written notice. Do not put anything in the written notice as to why. Do that verbally. When there are layoffs coming down the pike, sometimes the boss welcomes a friendly departure as that is one more head he does not have to cut himself. You could even tell him that you have another opportunity, and want to help one of his current employees keep their job by leaving. swohiodave Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Share Posted April 28, 2009 that is sort of like what i put in texan, they accepted my reasoning. i feel kinda bad for my supervisor as i am the only one on the team to run adhoc reports for him, rest of the team is lazy but being low man makes me worried about layoffs! i went in and just took care of business with that. and i know all about not burning bridges, i have seen that go bad too many times for other people. you always say you do not want to go back somewhere but you never know when you might need that old connection! swohiodave Posted April 29, 2009 Author Report Share Posted April 29, 2009 I felt better today being there, i got a lot of words about being missed... but now on to better things... i live with my girlfriend and i did not want to pop the question while we were both working at the same company... with all of the layoffs i had to wait until i found something new to make sure we both have steady jobs and if something happens there one of us would be employed! so now i have a check coming to pay me for 4 weeks of vacation....that should buy a nice ring!
