I scout probable 4 nites a week when i say scout i mean just glass for deer from a distance overlooking some fields near where i hunt. The deer coming into the fields before dark has drastically been decreasing just in the last week. I have noticed acorns already falling in the woods and along the local roads. I concluded from this that the deer may be focusing on these early mast crops instead of the soy bean fields. They are white oak which are a whitetails prefered food and also the earliest acorn to fall. On a side note along these lines Focus your hunting efforts around oak flats and trees producing acorns this is going to be one of the best years in many for acorns! at least in western Pa. layin on the smackdown Posted August 22, 2009 Report Share Posted August 22, 2009 I have two oaks in my yard, and i also noticed a good amount of acorns on the ground when i mowed my lawn the other day...Actually, i smoked one out from under the lawn mower and it nailed the neighbors garage at a pretty good velocity...oops. I am just glad that all I have to hunt in is a little funnel area! Them are the best spots to hunt by my choice! My stand is still there and so it the trail camera!
