Some of you may have remembered a thread I posted a month or so ago about my lab getting my binocs and basically eating them. Well, I sent them in two weeks ago to CA. I had no receipt, warranty card, etc. They were a Christmas present from my dad about 8 years ago. I got an email from them a couple of days ago saying it was a non-warranty repair, and the cost would be ten bucks plus ten shipping! Both eyepieces were completely eaten. I had a chip in one of the lenses, and the things were fogged from apparently a seal failure and from sitting 24 hours in the yard in the rain. I'll let you guys know when I get them back, but if they just follow through before the end of the year, I'll be thrilled at the cost. :D

20 bucks isn't bad at all. I sent a rangefinder in one time and they wanted more than I paid for the dang things to fix them.

I think I heard about that story! I wouldnt figure that policy would cover electronic stuff for obvious reasons, but still, that is ridiculous! Bottom line is, if your range finder was that bad off, and you weren't under warranty, why not just give you a new one at cost? Seems like a good way to keep a customer satisfied.

Look them over carefully. I'll bet you get a new pair of bino's. Simmons told me the exact same thing and a new pair showed up in the mail.

I kinda wondered that myself Joe. I mean if you can totally rebuild them for ten bucks, must be some cheap parts. Most likely they're made in China anyway now, so I figure I'll get a new pair, and the ten bucks most likely would pay for their cost. We'll see soon I hope.

I had a pair of Steiner Firebird bino's that I bought at a show for like half the price at the time. They had the rubber attached caps that ripped off and one of the eyepiece rubber came off. I sent them back and they wanted $98 + shipping to fix. They said there was a problem with the body or something. I don't think I paid that much for them. I told them to throw them away I didn't want to spend that much for an item that was supposed to have a lifetime warranty.

Two weeks later UPS had a package for me. Brand new pair of Firebird's. Go figure.

Ditto. I'm done with Nikon and their rangefinders. Curiously, they won't stand behind that product, but I have heard that they will stand behind their binoculars and scopes. Don't know why that is. My rangefinder cost me $199. A little over a year later it only registered out to 40 yards. Sent it back, and they told me they'd fix it for $176 plus shipping.

Yes, I remember. Surprised he has not chimed in on his unhappiness with Nikon. :)

There you are! :turned:
