Jeramie
Our lead sales guy in my group emailed me on the Blackberry last night. His teenage son was taken to the hospital with H1N1 last night. They caught it early and put him on Meds. The said it was possibly even to early to confirm the strain. Still, they are pretty sure that is what is going on. Also, one of the drivers at my wife's post office has been sick. Come to find out his whole family has the Flu and all tested positive for N1H1.... Its all around. It will bar a hard bullet to dodge. Im just glad its not as serious as the Liberal Media says it is... Btw Kyle, keep up updated on the status of your family and how they are handling it. I personally am in pretty good health so I dont worry too much about me. I do however have the two little girls and a wife that concern me. MCH
7 year old girl at my son's school died last week. Preliminary reports say the cause of death was Swine flu.
billygoat
H1N1 is the "real deal"... especially if you are younger (under 25). I have seen more cases of this flu, than I have seen of ANY influenza, in my whole nursing career. Personally I have witnessed 2 deaths caused by H1N1 (1 child previously health, other with an underlying illness), and multiple healthy and chronic ill children requiring prolonged intubation/respiratory support. On top of that, numberous children are "toughing" it out at home. It's not to say that if you get H1N1 YOU WILL DIE.... however, it is to say that this strain of influenza is taking its toll on younger individuals and it can get real ugly, really quick! I have heard discussion throughout infectious disease MD's that there is some speculation that older adults may have some "partial" immunity/resistance to H1N1 and perhaps this is why younger individuals are being harder hit. wtnhunt
Yep, it is all around Jeramie, kind of tough not to end up being exposed to it if you have not already been. Hope your family stays healthy, but if they do get the flu be sure to watch for warning signs of complications. When my wife took our 8 year old in, the physician and her talked a good bit about this flu and he did not give my wife anything for her for treatment, however he said if caught early enough it could be treated. Our youngest(will be 4 in November) showed very minor symtpoms but never even ran a high fever. Have not heard of any fatalities here locally attributed to this flu. Agree with you 100 % about the media hype on this too, lots of scared folks out there and lots of people who already have health issues who should be careful, but probably also a lot of folks out there too who are rushing to the er's and their family doctors every time they get the sniffles and thinking they have the flu. csimon
good hygiene is probably the best prevention known for staying healthy. i know the hospitals in east texas have pretty much stopped testing for the swine flu. the treatments for both are the same. coles
i never used to wash my hands until now. I know its not serious just another cold/flu but i just cant afford to be out sick from school and work right now. Its everywhere around Missoula. Its also taking over the elementary and highschool in my home town. They have had to cancel football and volleyball games cuz they would only have 5 people on the team. the football team only had 5 or 6 kids out of 60. Talked to my mom last night and she said that there were only 3 kids in my little sisters 6th grade class yesterday. Also my girlfriend was/is sick right now but who knows if she has the flu. From what my mom said, even if they hear one little cough from a kid at school they send them home. they dont all necessarily have the flu. so who knows. I just dont wanna get sick and be laid up right before hunting season.
The_Kat
Cash's fever broke about 7 this morning and he seems to be in good spirits. Still coughing quite a bit, but he seems MUCH better. Jenn and mike on the other hand are both still sweating like crazy and aching. Both have bad headaches and sore throats...not much coughing but some. I'm doing ok, just got a lil sore throat. This illness is no joke, but I think the media has hyped it up in the wrong way. As long as you take care of yourself and don't waste time getting medical attention you should be ok. Drink lotsa fluid and use tylenol to treat fever. Motrin is recommended too.
coles
well from the sounds of the symptoms you are talking about im sure my girlfriend has it now. She wouldnt even get out of bed when i stopped by her house yesterday morning to see how she was feeling. Said her whole body was aching really bad. She had a horrible headache yesterday but she said it let up a litle bit today. She has a sore throat too.
csimon
switch out between Tylenol and Motrin, take one first then when time to take the next dose take the other. it will help from accidentally getting to much of one drug in your system which can cause problems as well. Sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but pretty sure you can safely stagger these so that you are getting both of these just at different time intervals so long as you follow the correct dosages according to your physician or the label listings. In the kids especially sometimes tylenol alone will not control the fever and I know that we have on occasion had to give our kids both. DocMort
Take tylenol first, 2-3 325 mg regular strength. Or take 1-2 extra strenght. Take motrin 2-4 hours later then tylenol. It will work. Swine flu is no joke but its treated the same as the regular flu. Tamaflu works.

Tylenol and Motrin are the way to go. Remember folks, no Aspirin for kids!
