The_Kat
I was just reviewing American Airlines baggage fees and it looks like with one big bag, my bow, and a carry on it's gonna cost me close to 100$ if not more for my bags up to Ohio and then I'll be charged again when I bring them back to Oklahoma. Makes my good deal ( 200$ round trip ) not seem so great. I could have driven for less than 450$.....This may be my last time flying. SuperMn106
I am not sure what Airports your are flying to and from but you can check with Southwest Airlines. www.southwest.com I have flown with them in the past and they are always cheaper and I believe the first checked bag there is no fee. Just a thought.

ruttinbuc
It is all a scam! Just keep hitting people over the head and stealing their wallets because they can. My last minute trip to Alaska was booked with US Airways. I packed my bowcase with all I could get in it. It is a big SKB double case which helps. I had a big carry on packed to the limit. A smaller carry on had the rest of my stuff. That was packed to the gills too. Just barely fit under the seat. I spent $20 each way.
wtnhunt
Have a safe flight Kyle. Baggage fees are ridiculous, agree with Mike it is a scam.
Swamphunter
UPS or Fed Ex... thats what I did Kyle when I went to Steve's in Wyoming. From NY to Wyoming, I shipped a box with my bow (in a bow case with all my tackle), and my small fanny pack full of the stuff I couldn't "carry on", on the plane. Cost me about $28 to ship out there and a bit more to ship back because I had more weight and more insurance on the way back. Everything else I had two carry on's on the airline and paid no baggage fees except for my antelope meat on dry ice on the way home.
stevebeilgard
the airlines are rip off artists any more. i'm driving more & more all the time.

The_Kat
cost me 50$...two months ago it cost Jenn 30$ for the same amount of baggage. Mike saved me a bag with the SKB bowcase idea. I didn't know I could pack it down with stuff too. Thought it could only be archery equipment, but I got it through lol. Trouble with these airlines is there is no uniform price on any of this stuff. They are all different on what is allowed and what it cost. You may not be able to get the carrier with the best rates or least restrictions from your departure airport. Sure, Southwest does not charge for baggage, BUT they don't fly everywhere. Their prices are not always the lowest either. You are at their mercy of the airlines and you really have to be up to date with the changes. Best thing to do is look at all of the possible flights and carriers and then call about the baggage if there is a gray area you don't understand. mike13candace
I agree.. fees are not good.. I will be driving from now on. Just got back from Illinois. $300 flight was good (I thought) Choosing United 50lbs over American 40lbs per bag. Couldn't check bags online due to "special archery" baggage. Charged $100 each way.. $500 total cost to fly The plane had 90 empty seats.. I wonder why? LOL
The_Kat
Ya I found it odd I was the only one in my row of 5 seats. There were several empty rows and seats on the plane.
Whitetail Freak Hunter
When ever I go to Hawaii, they always look at me funny for just having a strapped carry on. Few light weight cloths, usually buy some extra over there, then flat rate shipping back home so they don't go in the luggage. Never pack more than I need. billkay
UPS is the way to go with stuff. Sending it so it arrives several days before you do is best so you know it got there. Soutwest gives you the first 2 bags free. There wasn't an empty seat on any of the last 5 or so flights I've been on in the last several months.
