Ilbowman Posted November 16, 2009 Report Share Posted November 16, 2009 Well went and sat in the rain most of the day as for some reason we have to get more rain this season then we ever get when we actually need it!! The one farm, I have permission to hunt, I share it with a 13yr old boy that lives right next to it. This is the first year he has bow hunted and when I got him in his blind I headed to mine, but before I got to my stand he calls me and said he shot a doe! I was excited for him at first but when he said he hit her high I was worried. So instead of going to my stand I turned around and went to help him find the deer. There was two problems we ran into. 1. It was steadily raining and everyone knows that blood washes away super fast when its raining and 2. There is standing corn everywhere around us! The doe ran into the standing corn field. we looked for about 2 hours and to no avail. Probably will go back out tomorrow and check again. Talk about ups and downs of hunting. Luckily he is possitive about the situation. Not looking forward to all this corn still standing during gun season I can tell u that!! There will be alot deer not found cause of it. Luckly the one and only shooter deer I have saw with my bow meet his maker. He went 40 yrds. and piled up, heard the crash, that's way I like it. At least the kid didn't get discouraged, keep him in the woods and it will all come together. When I first started bowhuntin' ( quite some years ago) all I had was some state owned public land to hunt, it was hard huntin' because of all the people it drew there, no plots or anything like that. It was 3 years before I finally killed a doe. For his first year I'd say he is doin' all right. MichiganHunter Posted November 16, 2009 Report Share Posted November 16, 2009 see if some one has a dog you can take with you....sometimes even if they are not tracking dogs they will find the dead animal, put a bell or beeper on it so you can keep an ear on it in the standing corn. Both my dad and I hit two bucks this year high with our bows and we never found either of them. The deer my dad hit is still alive and we saw him chasing does a week after he shot him. The buck that I hit we still think is alive but we havent seen him since the shot. This is also my first year bowhunting so he is not the only person who shot a deer and didnt find it his first year.
