redkneck
My dad just called about an old friend we used to hunt with. He was about 60, as country as they come. His wife died about 7 years ago. I suppose he just couldnt keep going without her, who really knows but he took his life last night. His son found him a short time later. His name was Robert Singleton, but we all called him Wishbone because he was such a good camp cook. He will be sorely missed.... Say a prayer for his family if you would. I know what his son is going through, I broke into my uncle's house when I was ten to try to save him after he stuck a .38 in his mouth. A person will go the rest of their life trying to go back and wish they had read the signs better, and the images of that will never leave you. So very sad. RIP Wishbone...... Thank you for many a great meal. btw folks if you know someone is down and out, say a kind word to them, you will never know, but you may have made all the difference in the world to them. I hadn't seen Robert in years, I knew he had some back problems, but had no idea he was in trouble, apparently nobody did.

woolybear
That's tough John. When someone gets to the point of giving up on life there is not much you can do or say. When they get that far gone, you just wish you would have tryed for your own piece of mind. Depression is more powerful than some can ever imagine. Sorry to hear old Wishbone went out like that. redkneck
Thanks guys. That's tough John. When someone gets to the point of giving up on life there is not much you can do or say. I know your right Matt, some get past the point of no return and that's that. I'm not so naive to think that if someone had just stopped by and had a conversation with him then things would be fine; but, I do think that if all of us would try a little harder to help friends and family out with mental illness/depression that there would be a few more folks still with us today.
