Re: Shooter (the movie) I also want to see this one. I have read all of the "Bob the Nailer" books by Stephen Hunter. This movie is from the book Point of Impact also by Hunter. Other good "Bob The Nailer" books are: The Master Sniper Time to Hunt Black Light

Re: zeiss conquest or ???? I feel the same way as iron buck, but about the Conquest. I like my Conquests better than my Leupy scopes. My next choice for the price is the Nikon Monarch. You can get some great buys now on a last years model Monarch. Since they increased the magnification range to 4x, you can get a 3x magnification range for a great price.

Re: .17 HMR Bullet Choice I would use the most accurate bullet in my gun. My 17 HMR does not like the 20 gr bullets. It shoots the 17 gr poly tipped bullets into little bug holes though.

Re: stock problem on savage .17hmr Adding aluminum pillars to the stock where the action screws attach the stock to the barreled action. It gives you a metal to metal to metal connection. Once a proper bedding job has been done, you can remove the barreled action from the stock and clean away. When you put it back in it will still shoot to the same place.

Re: stock problem on savage .17hmr Sounds like its begging for a pillar bedding job. If the barreled action can move in the stock, its not shooting at its best. You can play with the stock and bedding and if you screw it up, you wanted a new stock anyhow. It's a great way to learn.

Re: Appropriate High Fence Thread!!!! Personally, I have no problem with large tracts of land enclosed in a high fence. A 5000 acre parcel that is high fenced and all wooded is harder to hunt and more sporting than an unfenced river bottom that is surrounded by miles of fields. Each circumstance is different. I don't have a blanket statement or one size fits all for or against.

Re: Mossberg Silver Reserve Only having 300 rounds through it between cleanings is nothing. Heck, my trap gun usually saw 1500 rounds between cleanings when I shot competitively. It should have nothing to do with the gun doubling. Doubling, both barrels going off at the same time, is a problem that a lot of cheap double guns can develop. Since the gun is less than 2 years old, I would send it back to Mossberg for repair.

a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ??
AJ replied to too_pointer's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? There is another option. You can get this Browning Citori. It does have 3.5" chambers. It will shoot all 12 ga ammo. You also have the benefit of two chokes. -
Re: Scope Power? Personally, i have no use for anything smaller than a 3-9x40, on any gun. A straight 6x would also be cool.

Re: Why not an autoloader?? Yeppir! Now the opposite problem exists. The sun is so hot it will cook your hand if you grab bare blued metal. I guess its back to the other guns. I do own a 760 and a 742 Carbine though.

Re: H.R. 1022[ Weapons Ban ] Mañana down here means some day not necessarily tomorrow. The running joke is it will get done mañana. Come on WABS, it was during the siesta time. We just lay around the casa and drink tequilla.

Re: Why not an autoloader?? The only drawback to the 760, 6, 7600 and the 742, 4, and 7400, is the metal receiver at the balance point of the gun. I am not a fan of wearing gloves when I hunt and holding a cold metal receiver is not a lot of fun. This is where the bolt gun wins for me on a cold day.

a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ??
AJ replied to too_pointer's topic in Shotguns & Accessories
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? If you want the shotgun to handle all ammo from light 7/8 oz target powder puff loads through the biggest heaviest 2 5/8 oz Nitro Company Magnums, you can get the Mossberg 835, The Browning BPS, or the Rem 870 Super Mag. They are significantly cheaper than the semi auto guns and are more reliable. -
Re: Tire sizes??? Nah, the BFG AT/KO will go fairly decent off road. Unless you are in the slop and slime, they really are good all year tires. I had no problems in the snow with them and in light mud they will do just fine. the Mud TA/KM are definately more agressive and wear about the same I went through 3 or 4 sets of them on my Chevy. They did cost me about 1-2 mpg though. I almost went with Mud TA/KM on my Dodge, but I don't want to loose the milage. I will take every mpg I can.

Re: Tire sizes??? Your stock tires run about 10.7" wide and 31.7" tall. If you step up to the 285/70R17 you will have a tire that is 11.5" wide and 32.8" tall. It will only take up 1/2" of the clearance you have now. The original tire spins 654 rev per mile at 45 mph and the the larger tire spins 632 revs per mile at 45 mph. This will give you a speedometer reading that is about 3.5% slower than what you are going. Your rpm's will also go down slightly at highway speeds.

Re: where can i get an AK-47? First off welcome to the forums. I can't say I have ever seen them that low, at least in 15 years.

Re: Gun range fire... Dang, that was Shooters Paradise? I used to shop and shoot there when they first opened and I lived in "Hoodbridge". That place has changed hands more than a few times since 1993. Hmmmmmm.

Re: Hoover Dam Trip (pics ) Cool pics. Did you see any desert sheep? The mountains between the grand canyon and Hoover Dam have a decent population of sheep in them. They blend in with the rocks a bit though.

Re: Saving pennies? Or not? Throw them out? Maybe a few here or there if they get nasty. But as a rule, nope. I do like the others and toss them into a jar and redeem them at the bank. In 2005, I cashed in over $3000 in change. This was from big jugs of assorted change and a few 5 gallon water jugs of pennies. Actually, with the rising cost of metals, it now costs the mint about 1.5 cents to make a penney. The US Mint made it illegal to melt pennies and nickels as the coins are worth more as scrap than face value.

Re: Need help Does the turret have a set screw in the side? If so, you should be able to remove the turret to allow zeroing the gun, then using the target turret to dial in for longer range.

Re: HOWA GUNS If you can get a decent fast twist barrel you can easily use your 223 out to 500 yards. Get a 70+ gr VLD and push it through a 1:9" or 1:8" twist barrel and you are good to go. The 168 gr Match in a 308 Win has always been a long range smokin load. I highly recommend getting some good glass on top of the rifle to be shooting 500+ yards. The same goes for a good bedding job. Fully match prepped brass and hold into the wind. One thing I have found that is almost as important as good optics is a good wind flag or a set of wind flags. Learn how to read them and how to use sighters and you are good to go.

Re: What is accurate First off when I say average, I am talking about 5 seperate 5 shot groups at 100 yards making up the average. It depends on the gun. For a shotgun with rifled slugs, I am happy with 4" at 75 yards. With a rifled bore and sabots, 4" at 125 yards are acceptable. For my muzzleloaders, it all depends on the gun. For my pyrodex gun, 2" at 100 yards is more than enough. I like it down to less than 1.5" for my long range Savage smokeless ML though. For my short - medium range deer rifles (out to 200 yards) with my 45-70 with a 2-7x scope, I am happy with 2" groups even though it will shoot much better. My Rem Model 7 guns with short buggy whip tapered barrels, I am happy with 1.5" groups at 100 yards. With my medium to long range guns I want 1" or better at 100 yards. For my long range guns, I want sub 1" groups on average. For varmint rifles, I want 1/2" groups at 100 yards. For benchrest guns, it has to be under 1/4" groups at 100 yards.
