  1. Re: Nebraska bound...look out Merriams Go get them! Should be a great trip!
  2. Re: 7 years bad luck!!!! My dad got his first one after 7 years of hunting them on his last day to hunt. Keep at it and you'll score. It just gets a bit easy after the pressure is off of you.
  3. Re: What do yall think !! I generally let them pass myself. I think I've shot one in all my years of hunting. Although I wouldn't hold it against anyone if it's legal to take one and they do. When you think about it Jake really don't really contribute much to the population other than themselves making it to the next season. Hens have far more to do with that as well as 2-4 year old toms.
  4. Re: bedroom bird Are you sure you're awake now? Congrats on a very nice bird.
  5. Re: 2006 RT Forum Turkey Contest Teams [ QUOTE ] Why is my Gobbler not being scored....??? i posted the links in the team room....or did i do something wrong?....Honkers.. [/ QUOTE ] Honkers you need to post the pics in the contest photo posting thread. That's why I haven't got it entered yet. That's where I check.
  6. Re: Realtree Turkey Team #25 That is an awsome tom! That 75.5 definitely help your team score. If I recall correctly it's the second highest scoring bird, just behind boonencricket's 76 even. Again way to go!
  7. Re: M.O. horse Very nice toms.
  8. Re: Late season tactics A lot depends on the spring. I've had a lot of gobbling some late seasons and others it's been real quiet. Birds will respond to calling better mid to late morning. Hens will be on nest and in some cases actually be caring for some poults. Pressure is what will affect birds as well. If you hunting birds that have been getting hammered all spring with aggressive calling then use more purrs, clucks and leaf scratching. Good Luck in MT.
  9. Re: Another one down in NY.... Now your having fun!!!!
  10. Re: 5 longbeards at once... Keep after them and you'll close the deal. Some days are just like that.
  11. Re: When\'s a good time for state land? If the state land gets lots of pressure I'd hit it during the week and later in the morning. If NY allows afternoon hunting I'd do that as well even on the weekends. Get as far of the roads as you can. Most hunters don't travel far from their vehicles. Get a mile or more back and the birds their will have lots less pressure. Good Luck!
  12. Re: Never had this happen before! Awsome bird!
  13. Re: Maine turkey down! (one for Team #2) Way to go!
  14. Re: ny spring gobbler Nice bird there Buckshot!
  15. Re: question...did i mess up? When they gobble close and shut up I'm generally staying as long as I can stand it. But if they haven't shown themselves in 45 minutes or more than I'm guessing that they either gort spooked and left or are hung up stutting. In either case I'll generally make a cautious move. Sometime you get busted and some times you end up busting them because of the move. That's turkey hunting and what makes it so much fun. Turkeys don't play by set rules. So each situation and bird is different. Good Luck on your next outting.
  16. Re: Teamrlthunter Scores! Congrats on a pretty merriam. Man I love those!
  17. Re: My NY season comes to an end... It's great while you're getting ready and then finally chasing them. Then it's over before you know it. Cograts on a fine season.

  22. Re: one month is not enough [ QUOTE ] dude 5 days thats wierd is any specific reason? [/ QUOTE ] Spring season is gained through lottery draw. Seasons are broken up into 6 day time periods(seasons) and two 7 day seasons. People here apply from different time periods and zones. Basicly the same system in WI as well. Spreads out the pressure and limits number of birds taken in each zone based on bird population. Do I like it? No, but it's the way it is here.
  23. Re: Indiana bird down Way to go! Very nice bird.
  24. Re: NY Opening Day Success!! Congrats!!! The bird might be a late hatch 2 year old. The fan is usually the best indicater of whether it's a Jake or not. Pass on to Bill that the slate over glass I got from him works just fine on these MN birds.
  25. Re: one month is not enough A month!!!! Try 5 days!!! Even the fall seaon is short here.
