  1. My 93 has a bull barrel, and the accutrigger. The barrel does add some weight, and from what I hear, the standard barrel is fine for accuracy. I really like the trigger, it is great and you don't want the older trigger, it is not good at all. I also prefer the Hornady 17 grain bullet for accuracy. too_
  2. Norman my buddy That is great news that you are having some better times. I'll have to shoot you an email soon. Say hi to the family for me. Mike
  3. This is where is ordered it, it is very easy to install and pretty cheap, definetly improves the trigger. http://www.rimfiresports.com/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=RSC&Category_Code=REM597 too_
  4. Hey Michigan. We do have some weird weather that time of the year :confused:I'm a Nikon fan, but there are a boatload of good scopes out there. I would get a good as scope as you can afford. Stick with the well known brands, and stop somewhere that you can look through different ones. Go to Cabela's or one of the 2 Jays if you can. That is a good price on that Nikon Monarch ! too_
  5. I found Federals were the most accurate in my Rem. I would shoot some different loads and see what is the most accurate out of your gun. Most slugs will work fine on dropping game, accuracy is the most important thing to look for. too_
  6. If you haven't already, post this in the waterfowl room also ! too_
  7. As was said, a fully rifled barrel with sabot slugs are much more accurate, especially it will buy you longer distances also. The barrel though will be only good for slugs nothing else. For a few years, I used a smooth barrel, and used a rifled choke, I killed deer out to 100 yards with that set-up. Brenneke slugs are very good for rifled slugs. I have been using Federal sabots with great results out of my fully rifled Rem. barrel. Check to make sure your Benelli barrel is NOT overbored to to 10 ga. standards like Mossbergs are, you cannot shoots slugs through that barrel, very dangerous. too_
  8. Hi. I did have a small jamming problem when I first had it. I was trying Remington ammo, and besides the rem. jamming, the accuracy was horrible. I switched to CCI ammo, and I get super accuracy and no more jamming. There are several rimfire sites that I hang in, and there is a ton of advice that helps out. I did buy an after market hammer to improve the trigger pull down to 2 1/2 lbs. The 597 is known for out of box accuracy
  9. I have heard about scopes for an air gun. They say that an air gun recoils different than a regular gun, and if using a regular scope, it will probably ruin it eventually. too_
  10. For the first time in 4-5 years, I have some toys coming. A new custom built stock for my .17hmr. and a new scope for my Rem. 597 .22. Ya, staying low right now, but it sure is fun shooting the rimfires, and alot cheaper also. The 597 is a semi-auto, so that might be a worry when the dem's take over. The stock is from Sharp Shooter Supply, and the scope is a Mueller APV 4.5-14x40. I can shoot a ton of ammo for the guns compared to centerfires. too_
  11. I guess you won't know what will happen after the next president. I am thinking the bigger picture. Small or big, we are on the same page. I know this is for kicks !! I have been updating my .22 & .17hmr. I will be shooting when this all comes to the head too_
  12. Being the skilled hunter I am, I don't need to take shots 500 yards away, I use my hunting skills for closer shots with my .270 and 25-06. :D too_
  13. I would go with a Tikka in .270, even though I already have a .270. I have never owned a high price scope, mostly Nikons, which I do love. A Zeiss or Swarovski, would make me smile ;):D too_
  14. I just bought a new Mueller scope for my .22 or .17hmr. https://mueller.securesites.com/products/show.php?id=4626⊂=&type=176 On another web site for rimfires, it is a very popular scope for the price. I want to know if anyone in here has ever had or used one. It was around $140. I planned on buying another Nikon with an ao adjustment, but broke myself when I ordered a stock for my .17 to be built. The scope is a 4.5-14x40. It will be a better fit for my .22, since it only goes to 14 X. My 17hmr scope goes up to 20x, but it also almost doubles the shooting range too. Thanks for any help. I wouldn't mind to hear what scopes you have on your rimfires also. too_
  15. To bad you didn't the chance to talk with him. In my mind, he is easily the most knowledgeable moderator in the Realtree site. You can always look back at posts from the past, most everything was talked about one time or another. too_
  16. The Encores ( new and older ) are great, I have one, but also have extra barrels for it. If your friend doesn't ever plan on extra barrels, have him check out the TC Omega's. They are pretty darn popular and are a very good gun for the $$. I am also a TC fan. too_
  17. Hello. If I remember right, my encore with the muzzle barrel was around $600 , and that was with a synthetic stock, been awhile now since I bought it. I did not like the syn. stock, plus I have a .25-06 barrel also, and have Boyd's laminated stocks for each barrel. The price of the scope is up to you. I also agree that you best buy would be getting it all the same time, exception of the scope. I have a Sims recoil pad on the stock too. It can add up pretty fast. too_
  18. We keep in touch through email, and I'm sure he would answer any question we gave him, but with the people we have in here, I don't see the need for it right now. I think alot of us have been kinda lazy looking info up, since A.J. usually had it right in front of him, ( at least I have ). He has told me that he didn't draw any big game tags for this coming season, so will varmint hunt more. He is also riding his 4 wheeler quite abit. too_
  19. HMM The .243 is a good deer calibur just not for youngsters but for anyone. I don't get where there is alot of recoil with one though. There is nothing wrong with putting a good recoil pad on, it will help . I don't think rubbing A.J. in our faces will help either. We all know he was a wealth of information and a very smart shooter. too_
  20. Don't forget to save your money, they don't come free , nor the ammo :D
  21. Why don't you just buy one, and report to everyone how good it is. I have a TC Encore, and wouldn't trade it for all the other makes period. It isn't because I don't like other makes, it's because I am familiar and confident in my TC. Whats so hard for you to understand too_
  22. I certainly would hope not. There are way too many people that make tons of $$ of us shooters. I don't want to get into a political battle in here, but very afraid after the elections, we will have an uphill battle. :( This is the most that I have ever been worried, and I'm 53. Does this mean, no more fireworks ?? too_
  23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Are you joining us old farts yet ?? too_
  24. WOW, how are you gonna fit in such a small house ?? Looking very nice. too_
